The Nature of Kaolin

Kaolin is a clay mineral with the chemical composition Al2O3 2SiO2 2H2O. Crystal water in molecule exists in
minerals crystal structure. As natural mineral, kaolin consists of hexagonal slices whose range of diameter-
thickness ratio is between 4:1 and 10:1 one of the purest and finest minerals.
Kaolin in China is classified into sedimentary and hydrothermal kaolin.The purest sedimentary kaolinite mine
is located in Datong, Shanxi. Datong kaolin, Dtong black gravel, is black shale clay which belongs to
Carboniferous-Permian.This kind of kaolin, usually keeping in coal sandwich, of which ore structure is plentiful
and purity amounts to 90%. Crystal structure is hexagonal and Mohs Scale is 5-8.

Procedures
Datong Coal Industrial Jinyu kaolin Chemical Co., Ltd. process raw materials into products by several
intensive and optimized procedures.
Firstly, impurity must be removed and later, crash it into partical of diameter with 2-3cm. Then raw materials
will be crashed below 44 micron by dry grinding.
Secondly, its wet grinding. Particle size below 2 micron will reach 95% by layered dissociation. After layered
dissociating, washing and filtering, Water-soluble Salts in kaolin will be reduced greatly.
The third, kaolin will be micronized by spray drying. Then, scatter lumps can reduce and control screen
residue level.
Fourth, calcinating kaolin over 950 C. All the process of calcine is under-controlled heat-treatment. Through
calcinating, water molecular can be removed and fuse kaolin particles into irregular porous structure. This step can
improve the brightness, refractivity and chemical inertness.
 The last step is secondary pulverization, classification and packing.

Free water in JINYU GB-CK95 is less than 0.5% which improves its performance in water based system.
