Bipolar Disorder
Do you ever feel sad then crazy? Well if you do, then you can possibly have a bipolar
disorder or maybe it just isnt your day. A bipolar disorder is associated with episodes of mood
swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs. About 2.6% of the population suffer from
this disorder. Another name for this disorder is the manic disorder. There is a higher proximity
for women to have bipolar disorder. Like any other disorder being bipolar has symptoms, causes,
and treatments.
The manic disorder has many symptoms one can go through, such as high energy,
reduced need for sleep, and loss of touch with reality. These symptoms can go on for days or
months. They can also cause suicidal thoughts. People can also experience mood swings,
sadness, elevated mood, anger, anxiety, apathy, apprehension, euphoria, general discontent, guilt,
hopelessness, loss of interest, or loss of interest or pleasure in activities. There can also be
behavioral issues such as irritability, disorganized behavior, aggression, agitation, crying, excess
desire for sex, hyperactivity, impulsivity, restlessness, or self-harm. People may also experience
There are also psychological symptoms like depression, manic episode, agitated depression, or
paranoia. Being bipolar can affect the amount of sleep you get, your weight, gain or loss, risky
behavior, false belief of superiority, fatigue, or rapid and frenzied speaking. Being bipolar
doesnt always come with just symptoms, there has to be a cause and treatments.
There isnt a real cause yet but being bipolar can come from a traumatic life event or it
can be genetic. Even without clear genetic factors, altered health habits, alcohol or drug abuse, or
hormonal problems can trigger an episode. There is not a specific treatment that can heal this
disorder but there is medication and psychotherapy. The medications that are available are
antipsychotic which reduces or improves the symptoms of certain psychiatric conditions and
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor which eases symptoms of depressed mood and anxiety.
There are many ways to help those that deal with the bipolar disorder but these are the two main
ways. This disorder is a lifelong disorder, you can help it but not fully treat it.
In conclusion if you suffer from any of these symptoms or have a family member with
