Repair and defects is subject of the rules of Calcification Society, IACS, and general
shipbuilding practice.
Defects are a status fact which is light up by involved persons in ship building. In
this aspect a major role is supported by NDT, which analyze and evaluate the grade
of defect.

The defects are in general divided in material defects and technological defects.
There are solutions for both types, but in boundaries.
According to the classical defects most of the defects are common in shipbuilding
practice, thats why the manuals give examples and solutions, mentioned the range
defect could be accepted or in case are out of limit , how to be treated to be
accepted .
Correction are done based on rules an accepted by Class and Client, mandatory

Procedure of the repair is settled by a document, issued by the builder and common
agreed by Class and Client.
The result of repair is a point of inspection as any point of ship schedule inspection.
5. Closing point.
Defects and repair are valid for materials, construction steel and pipes, paint.
Material defects : pitting, rolled in scale , roll marks, scratches and grooves, sand
patches , sharp edges seams .
In this case defects have not to excide 5% of the total surface in question.
Defects have to be remedied by grinding and welding in accordance with IACS Rec.

Lamination is a still mill defect. In this case repair is carried out by grinding and
welding. If major lamination appear inserting plate has to be applied.
