What is the meaning of stem? Well for one it is the acronym we all come to know as Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. We also realize that it plays an important role in our
everyday lives since 2001, the letters of stem have been a normal part of our educational
vocabulary, hence the target of this senior project.
Now so far in the project Ive spotted some points of stem and careers and the relationship
between each letter in stem. Now I will address how it is important in our everyday lives. Society
doesnt pay attention but it affects our lives more than you think. For example Biology helps
improve our health, quality of life, and understanding of the world around us. Another prime
example of stem major effect is Biomedical Technology such as Biomedically compatible
materials, pacemakers, blood analyses , and life support system , there are many other
amazing examples of our life with stem such as Chemistry, Physics in modern life, farming, If I
could put in my opinion I would say that we take stem for granted. Stem is everywhere. We
need to realize that Science is in our natural world. It may sound like an over exaggerating
statement but stem is basically our Sun, moon and stars, lands and oceans, computers and
smartphones. So many devices we use to designs buildings, roads, and bridges, but it also
tracks today's challenges. Last but not least mathematics, We use it at the grocery store, bank,
tax forms, investments and so much more. In the future stem will affect our children, the
technological age in which they live, their best career options, and their key to wise decisions
There are a variety of career and entrepreneurial opportunities that exist for those with STEM
education. Of all the career options I researched, Engineering has a great deal of career routes
that are important in our everyday life, such as Architecture Engineering (AE). Architectural
Engineers help create the physical environment in which we all work, live, and play. Did you
know that Architecture Engineers are finding ways to build with recycled items such as old tires,
which make a great waterproof building material? These engineering programs combine
architecture and engineering. People who major in AE learn about the links between designing
and construction. Some of the key characteristics of an AE are being a fan of science and math,
a problem solver, and a creative thinker. If you love architecture and want to consider going into
that field in the future, consider this major. Architectural engineers averaged about $87,130 in
May 2014. The minimum salary was $52,570 for workers and maximum was $128,110. Over the
2014-2024 decade, the BLS, which stands for Basic Life Support, expects civil engineer
employment rates to increase at a faster than the current average rate of 8%. I mainly talked
about AE in this last paragraph but there are ton of other STEM careers such as; Mathematical
Technician, Natural Science Managers, Museum Technicians and Conservators, Nuclear
Engineers, Nutritionist and Dietitians and many more.
In conclusion, fundamentals of STEM Education and career opportunities have a big impact on
students, giving ideas that can make our lives easier. Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics as foundation of STEM education gives us skills to solve a problem, ability to
design and construct/build so we enjoy the things we love using, playing, and watching. STEM
in everyday life activities should makes us thankful for the things we use such as; cellular
devices, computers, playing football which uses stem with physics; to keep our mind occupied
so we can have things to do when were bored. Also career and entrepreneurial opportunities
with STEM education gives us so many choices for what we want to be when we grow up to be
successful in life.
