FOREWORD
Praise be to God Almighty for His blessings and grace that has been given to me
so that it can finalize the report geomorphology and geology photos.
Which is where the task of this report to work well for their physical and material
assistance from friends groups 3. Do not forget to properly aim of making an official
report is to assess how far we are in the lab.
A big thank you to Muhammad Aditya R as a lecturer Geomorphology and
Geology Photos and friends of the group 3 where unrelenting always helpful in
making this official report. Not to forget the parents who always provide motivation
and encouragement to always enterprising in doing.
On this occasion I would like to thank all those who have helped me either
directly or indirectly in the process of preparing this report. Therefore, all the input
and constructive criticism, I welcomed.
thanks.

CHAPTER I
PRELIMINARY
Background
The current field of geological sciences began to have a very important role among
the community, especially the information about the geological conditions are
developing and working in the area. From the development and progress of science
will encourage experts to conduct research on a regional basis, but still required a
more detailed study to complement the existing geological data includes conditions
geomorphology, stratigraphy, structural geology applied geology and other aspects.
Activity EGR (Regional Geological Excursion) This includes the observations of the
geomorphological aspects, namely by looking at the earth's surface including
landscapes, formed by the river and a few other symptoms. Aspects of stratigraphy
discuss the types of rocks, layer order and age of rocks in the study area. The
geological structure to discuss the influence the structure of the work and its
relationship with the stratigraphy in the area, and can tell the geological history of
the study area. The tendency of the need for minerals that are construction and
natural resources (minerals) increased rapidly along with the rapid development in
all fields. In connection with this increase, the exploration and exploitation of
mineral resources must be improved in all regions of Indonesia to the overall
prosperity of the people of Indonesia.
CHAPTER 2
Regional Geology

Borneo is an area that has a complex tectonic. Their interactions or

collisions between three converging the main plate, the Indo-Australian plate, the
Pacific plate and the Asian plate that forms the East Kalimantan region. The tectonic
evolution of South-East Asia and parts of Kalimantan active becomes the subject of
conversation among experts in earth science. In the Lower Cretaceous period, part of
a passive continental margin in the Southwestern region of Borneo, which is formed
as part of the Southeast Asian plate, known as the Sunda Shelf. In the Tertiary,
convergent interaction event occurs that results in multiple formations accretion, in
Kalimantan. During the Eocene epoch, Sulawesi, located in the eastern part of the
continental plateau Sunda. In the mid-Eocene, an interaction of convergent or
collision between major plates, namely the India plate and Asia is affecting more and
more open ocean behind the arc in the Sulawesi Sea and the Strait of Malacca. Kutai
Basin is one of the basin generated by the development of a great strain on local
basin Kalimantan. In the Pre-Tertiary, Borneo is one of the centers of the deposition,
which was then at the beginning of the tertiary split into six basin as follows: Basin
Barito located in South Kalimantan, the Kutai Basin, located in East Kalimantan,
Tarakan Basin is located in northeastern Borneo , Sabah Basin located in North
Borneo, Sarawak Basin is located in northwestern Borneo, Basin Melawai and
Ketungau located in Central Kalimantan.
Location thesis, including the Kutai basin comprising several rock formations of
which are Kampung baru Formation (indicates that TPKB),
CHAPTER 3
DISCUSSION

GEOLOGY
Balikpapan city in geology consists of three formations underlying namely:
Balikpapan Formation Down, Up Balikpapan Formation and Kampung Baru
Balikpapan Formation. For formation Balikpapan and Balikpapan Top Down
consists of quartz sandstone and clay with inserts silt, shale, limestone and coal,
these formations is in urban areas. Where these lithologies are Miocene geological
age and have experienced weathering rate is quite high and easily saturated by water.
Kampung Baru Formation consists of quartz sandstone with lignite and silt loam
inserts and Pliocene age. The location of these formations are in the East of the City
of Aberdeen and the north. Where lithologies also have a high degree of weathering
and prone to erosion.
The type of rock that is composed of surface sediment and sedimentary and
volcanic rocks. Surface sediment deposition in the form of alluvium, consisting of
gravel, sand, clay and silt, generally scattered along the east coast around Tanah
Grogot, Adang Gulf and the Gulf of Balikpapan. While the types of sedimentary and
volcanic rocks, consisting of three rock formations namely Pulau Balang Formation,
Formation Formation Balikpapan and Kampung Baru.
Considering that most of the land in the city of Balikpapan manifold red-
yellow podzolic and coarse-textured quartz sand and rock and weak ties, caused the
land of the type of rock formed relatively young age. While highly erodible soil
properties and saturated with water. While the formation of soil types are determined
by several factors parent rock, topography, age, climate and vegetation / biology as
well as the influence of other factors, so the more experience the process
continuously.
The type of soil found in the city of Balikpapan are as follows:
Alluvial, comprised from sand, clay and mud that forms in rivers and coastal
environments. The type of soil it occupies an area of approximately 5% of the city of
Balikpapan. In this Alluvial soil type provided minimal enough useful nutrients for
the plants, but most of this land is affected by the parent material elements making
less fertile agricultural land.
Discussion STA
1. In OC 1 located in km.12 we found outcrops of sediments that have multiple
layers of Soil and Clay
2. In OC 2 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have one layer
only, it is Sandstone
3. In OC 3 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have one
layer only, it is Sandstone
4. In OC 4 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have multiple
layers of Soil and Clay
5. In OC 5 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have multiple
layers of Soil,Clay,Coal,Clay,and Sandstone
6. In OC 6 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have multiple
layers of Sandstone and Clay
7. In OC 7 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have multiple
layers of Clay,Coal,Inset Clay Sandstone
8. In OC 8 located in km.13 we found outcrops of sediments that have multiple
layers of Soil,Clay,Coal,and Clay
