World Wide Water Resources: Analysis

1. 30 countries on the list would meet the qualification to be considered water stressed (m3 per

capita is lower than 1700). However, this does not necessarily mean that a country is in fact

water stressed -- per capita water use could be low, which would match the similar low

availability of water resources. In addition, water could be imported into the water-depleted

nation in order to fill the deficit in their water demand, though this practice is not ideal.

2. 8 countries on the list are currently withdrawing more water resources than they are

replenishing.

3. The six countries that use the largest amount of their water withdrawals on agriculture are (1)

Somalia at 100%, (2) Mali at 99%, (3) Afghanistan at 98%, (4) Cambodia at 98%, (5)

Myanmar at 98%, and (6) Turkmenistan at 98%.

4. The six countries that use the largest amount of their water withdrawals on industry are (1)

Belize at 89%, (2) Finland at 84%, (3) Poland at 79%, (4) Bulgaria at 78%, (5) Ireland at

77%, and (6) the United Kingdom at 75%.

5. Relative use of water in Japan (on next page, it wouldnt fit on this page)
