Dear Parents and Guardians,

Congratulations to the fourth graders for recently
completing the M-STEP. Everyone worked hard and
deserves a big pat on the back for a job well done.
The children continue to work hard despite the fact
that summer vacation is quickly approaching. We
expect a very busy end to the school year. Please
continue to check the planner and the classroom blog
for upcoming events.
Wednesday, June 14th will be an exciting day. The
festivities will begin at 9:20 with a brief awards
assembly in our classroom. Families are welcome to
attend. At 10:00, Field Day will begin. The family
picnic will take place immediately following the Field
Day events(approximately 12:00). Please plan to bring
a blanket and/or chairs for eating on the lawn. You
are welcome to take your child home after the picnic.
If youd like to volunteer to help with Field Day, please
email Mr. Rutterbush at: rutterbushm@bcreek.org
The PTO will provide the majority of the food and
supplies for the family picnic on Field Day. The fourth
graders have been asked to donate a box of store-
bought cookies by Thursday, June 8. Thank you.
The last day of school will be Thursday, June 15th. We
will dismiss at 12:30. A sack lunch will be served to
students who receive/purchase hot lunch. All other
students may bring a lunch or wait to eat at home.
As this school year draws to a close, I would like to
extend a BIG thank you to all of the parents for the
tremendous amount of support that youve given me
this year. Your child has succeeded this year because of
you. I couldnt have done it without all of you!
Reading
We are studying the genre of Greek mythology as well
as practicing our public speaking skills. Students
recently engaged in a readers theater of the Greek
myth, Pandoras Box. They had such great fun that they
have requested to perform another.
Writing
We have been working on our informational pieces. In
addition to all of the writing skills that have been
learned through the process, students have learned
technological skills too. Those included some basics of
word processing, such as how to highlight, double-
space text, capitalize letters, etc. Soon, they will move
to more advanced skills of how to search for, copy, and
cite photos/illustrations.
Mathematics
Fractions is our current topic of study. After that, we
will be reviewing previously-taught material. In
preparation for the fractions test tomorrow, your child
may benefit from reviewing the following pages in the
math textbook: 225-226 & 267-268.
Science
Our life science unit continues. We are learning about
how plants and animals are classified as well as some
of their adaptations for survival.
Social Studies
The children have been reading the Regions of Our
Country book for social studies. The beginning lessons
focused upon a review of geography and government.
Next, theyll begin to learn more specifics about each
of the regions in America.
