what I thought looked like, a million books spanning
over five floors! The library also contained other cool
features like a secret garden situated at the top of
the building. It turned out that the secret garden
wasnt a secret after all! Looking out over the sides, it
gave us a killer view of Birmingham. We noticed an

array of construction sites, the WWII memorial - which
looked tiny, the Mailbox and several other rather
large buildings.
After we had spent time in the secret garden,
we made our way, on foot, towards The Mailbox
where we were having lunch. We arrived at a French
restaurant called Caf Rouge, which means red cafe
in French. Our theme for our Big Adventure was
France, so this fitted in well. I have to be honest, I
didnt like the food all that much but I was able to
eat something! There were fries, rice with vegetables,
mushrooms in breadcrumbs and many other dishes
like: French Onion Soup, Beetroot and Goats
Cheese Tarte, Boeuf Bourguignon, Bouillabaisse and
Cromesquis from the restaurants menu.
When we got back to school, we spent some time
trying to work out how much we would have had to
pay for certain dishes off the menu, if we had been
paying guests. We knew that trying as many different
dishes as we did, would have cost us hundreds of
pounds.

My class 6E went to Caf Rouge in the Mailbox -
Birmingham. After taking the register we had an
unexpected fire drill and had to go outside in the
rain! It wasnt a very good start to the morning!

all about WW2. We arrived at the library and looked
around the floor on ground level. We were due at the
Hall of Memory, War Memorial in Centenar y Square
on Broad Street, so we promptly made our way there.
Here at the WW2 memorial we learned that the
Hall of Memory was opened in 1925 and stands as a
memorial to the men and women of Birmingham who
gave their lives in the First World War, Second World
War and in any active service since 1945. There are

of Memory. We saw lots of flowers and statues. There
was also a big glass case surrounding information
about people who fought in the World Wars. There
were also lots of poppies and poppy wreaths all
around the inside of the building. These had messages
of condolence written on them. We all went into the
building in small groups as it wasnt very big at all.
We were also able to sketch items of interest like the
statues and memorial pillars.
Later on we went back to the Library and went up
to the top of the building to the secret garden. It was
very high off the ground and some people were a bit
scared when they went close to the ledge. We saw
beautiful plants and flowers and from the ledge we
could see other buildings across the city from us. We
took lots of photos as well.
Finally, we arrived at the restaurant. We were
all very hungry! We had missed morning break so
we were ready for our lunch. Whilst we waited for
the food to be brought in, we sat at long wooden
tables. The waiter told our teachers what food there
was and we were served a selection of wonderful
French cuisine. I enjoyed the food however, I was
disappointed because I didnt get any dessert.
Afterwards we went back to school and waited for
our parents.
