INTRODUCTION

There are many motor sports in the world. One of the example is Gokart. The Go-kart is a
vehicle which is compact, simple, lightweight and easy to operate. The go-kart is designed for
flat track racing so, its ground clearance is very small as compare to other vehicle hence it skips
the suspension. The chassis of go-kart is a skeleton frame made up of pipes and other materials
of various cross sections. Besides, the chassis of go-kart must consist of stability, torsional
rigidity, as well as it should have relatively high degree of flexibility as there is no suspension. It
can also adequate strength to sustain load of operator and other accessories The chassis was
designed for a safe ride and the load is applied on it without compromising the structural
strength. The driver cabin must have the capacity to resist all the forces exerted upon it. This can
be achieved either by using high strength material or better cross sections against the applied
load. But the most feasible way to balance the dry mass of chassis with the optimum number of
longitudinal and lateral members.

The safety and the strength of chassis are important issues for its structure. To meet these
requirements, it is essential to perform a static analysis on the chassis. Static analysis was done
using finite element method as it is an effective and efficient approach. SolidWorks software was
used for finite element analysis. Finite element analysis (FEA) is a computerized method for
predicting how a product reacts to real-world forces, vibration, and other physical effects. Finite
element analysis shows whether a product will break, wear out, or work the way it was designed.
Here we divide the frame into small sizes known as element and collective elements on the
model form a mesh.

The computer analyses the elements and shows us a collective result. The computer solves by the
computational method provided. The material and structure of frame or chasis was finalized and
then FEA was performed on it. It is tested whether the roll cage will be able to withstand torsion,
impact. The analysis was done in HyperWorks 13.0 .
OBJECTIVE

Students focused on a suspension system, chassis, wiring system and an engine.

MATERIAL SELECTION

The amount of carbon in mild steel is important to determine the strength, hardness, and
providing desired strength, endurance, safety and reliability of the vehicle. The main component
of mild steel is carbon which increases the hardness of material of chassis.
METROLOGY

Step 1: Import the file into hypermesh.

Step 2:Define the material used. Insert value for E, NU and RHO.

Step 3: Properties name is mild steel. Then, select type 3D.For card image, select PSOLID and
then click material mild steel.
Step 4: Click component

Step 5: Select size and bias. Insert the element size. For the mesh type, choose trias and click
mesh
Step 6: 2D Meshing
ANALYSIS

DISCUSSION

The model is difficult to analyze because some joint and line element did not intersection. This
will cause difficult to analyze repair the element. From this model, finite element analysis (FEA)
theory also can be used to show the equation or calculation that can be used to analyze the
element. From theory, we also can find the failure analysis for the chassis model. Besides that, it
also can calculate the suitable material for this model.
