I GENERAL INFORMATION

1 Introduction

This manual outlines the basic graphic standards for the EHF Handball Champions League
brand elements and provides guidelines for their correct use.

These brand elements have been designed to present the EHF Handball Champions League
to all the clubs and our partners in a memorable way.

This corporate design manual is intended to be a quick and easy reference for the correct
usage of the EHF Handball Champions League brand elements.

2 Mission statement

The EHF Champions League shall be the most popular and prestigious indoor tournament
in Europe by involving more people more deeply in handball.

In the period 2005-2008 the EHF Marketing shall develop the EHF Champions League to
the strongest European handball platform ever – measured by spectators; attendance
frequency; TV audience; number of TV hours; number of people with interest; preference
and involvement.

3 Official name of the competition

The official name of the competition is: EHF Handball Champions League

The three letter abbreviation for the European Handball Federation should always be
displayed in capital letters before the name of the actual competition.

Please note: If the season is required this must come before EHF, e.g. 2007/2008 EHF
Champions League.

Furthermore please note, that if you use the extra words “Men’s” or “Women’s” this
must become after EHF, e.g. 2007/2008 EHF Men’s Champions League or 2007/2008 EHF
Women’s Champions League

The wording “Champions League” should be written with a capital letter at the beginning
of each word, i.e. Champions League.

The remaining letters should be in lower case. The word Champions does not have an
apostrophe after the ‘s’.

1 Logotype Usage

The EHF Handball Champions League logo is the graphic representation of the EHF
Handball Champions League as a brand.

The logo displays a handball which is clutched by a hand.

The dynamic of handball is shown by the stripes. The diversity in the length of the stripes
describes the individuality of the players, the games and the passion at the event.

1.1 Primary logo – version 1


Please make sure, that the EHF Champions League logo is always used in white with on the
official EHF Champions League background. As there is no single coloured background,
there is no exact colour indication.

1.2 Primary logo – version 2


Please note that this logo can only has to be used in the defined graphics.

1.3 Secondary logo

1.4 Logo clear space


As shown, clear space is based on unit “x”, equal to the x-height of the letters in the
Champions League name.

Maintaining an adequate amount of the surrounding clear space ensures that the logo is
not crowded by any other distracting graphic elements or typography.

1.5 Minimum size


The minimum size for use of the Champions League logos is 22 mm or 120 pixels wide.

1.6 Logo with extras

For the EHF Men’s and EHF Women’s Champions League the usage of a competition related
logo is possible.

The following examples demonstrate some of the possible misapplications of the EHF
Champions League logo. All of them should be avoided:

2 Official typefaces

2.1 Text font


The primary corporate typeface is “Interstate”. This typeface is used for all corporate
design elements.

EHF Marketing GmbH will provide you with this typeface on the enclosed “Official
Corporate Design CD”.

You are kindly asked to install this typeface on your computer systems in order to
guarantee the correct usage.

The timekeeper’s table banner has to be fixed on the front of the table. The size has to be
adapted to the local requirements.

The size of the 2nd row or the spectator’s area banners have to be adapted to the local
requirements.

3.4 Player’s shirts


The fixing of the player’s t-shirt badges is an obligation. One badge per player has to be
fixed on the left arm of the t-shirt.

3.5 Press conference


To guarantee an identical appearance at all venues, there are some guidelines which
have to be strictly observed. Therefore please find below an overall graphic, as well as the

have to be branded with the EHF Champions League press information header.

General Information sheets (Technical meeting, TV meeting, etc.) have to be branded with
the general EHF Champions League header.

In the group matches a minimum of 2 Champions League panels have to be positioned in a
visible way in the VIP Room.

The table tags for the VIP Room have to be produced by the club themselves.
The cards shall be produced in a strong material. Below you can find a graphic which
shows the form of the table tag.

3.9 accreditation

3.9.1 How to use and wear


All accredited persons are required to carry their accreditation cards visibly and
show them upon request. Based on the accreditation category, the accreditation
card enables the holder to enter Playing Court, Dressing Rooms, Press Centre/Press
Seats, Mixed/Flash Zone, VIP Area/Room, VIP Tribune and Press Conference Room.

Name, company, match and date should be obligatory on the badge.

Areas of access: The number of coloured squares corresponds to the


number of access zones.

2007/08 EHF Men’s Champions League

FOREWORD
Dear Handball Friends,

The 2006/2007 EHF Men’s Champions League season will take some beat-
ing! It was more than just 100% action, competition and excitement from
the word go and was closely fought out right up to the final whistle. For the
first time in EHF Champions League history, we saw an “all German” final,
with THW Kiel surging through to take the prestigious title on 29th April
2007, underlining their success in EHF European club competitions.

Now we have entered the initial phase of the 2007/2008 season, handball
fans around Europe and indeed the world will see an EHF Champions League
with a slightly different format this season, with a group match phase of
32 teams (eight groups of four teams), followed by a main round of four x four (16 teams). We will
see exciting and dynamic matches from the start which means that this season promises to top
2006/2007...“watch this space!”

Many of Europe’s favourite teams are back in the running for the title, but tight competition is guar-
anteed, we also have newcomers to the EHF Champions League, who are out to prove themselves
and I think I can speak for many by saying that there is no clear cut favourite at this stage in the
competition. Like you, I will be watching the competition develop with great interest.

As President of the European Handball Federation, I would like to take this opportunity to congratu-
late each and every one the clubs on their EHF Champions League starting place. This is the cr…me de
la cr…me of club competitions and the ultimate title race. I would like to thank all the clubs, players
and officials for offering us handball of the highest level.

The EHF Champions League turned a corner last season with its new and fresh approach to “event
handball”, which was underlined by the sheer number of fans who flooded into the arenas and who
watched at home. Let’s make this season even better!
