Word Processing Features
1. What is the tab key and what does it do?
The tab key adds an indentation to text.
2. What is an indent and when would you use it?
Indents are used to describe the blank spaces to separate a paragraph from the left
or right margins. They can be used when starting a new paragraph.
3. What are headers and footers and how do you insert them?
They appear at the top and bottom of a page. Its where you insert information to
appear on each page of a document.
E.g. page number, your name etc.
4. How do you change the margins of a document?
You go to the Layout tab at the top. Then click Margins and you are able to change
the margins.
5. How do you change the line and paragraph spacing in a document?
Highlight the text you would like to format. Then press the Home tab, click the Line and
Paragraph Spacing command and select your line spacing.
6. How do you insert a page number into a document?
Click the document you would like to insert a section break. Then click Layout >
Breaks > Next Page. Double-click in the header area where you would like to display
page numbers.
7. How do you insert a page break and what would you use it for?
Click where you would like to place the page break. Then find Layout and press Breaks. After
that select the break type you want.

Computer Room Rules


Dont mistreat the computers
Keep passwords private
Change passwords regularly
Dont let anyone compromise your password

Follow the teachers instructions
No eating or drinking in the computer room
Do not interfere with other peoples computers
Take regular rest breaks (every 20 minutes)
Make sure to always log out when exiting the computer
Ergonomics
1. What does ergonomics mean?
Ergonomics is designing products and systems to fit the people who uses them.
2. Describe an appropriate seat height when working at a computer.
To get the appropriate height for your seat push your back against the chair. Make
sure your feet are flat on the floor, if they arent then adjust your chair. Your knees
should be on the same level or lower than your hips. Adjust the back to an angle
between100 degrees to 110 degrees.
3. Where should your keyboard be placed?
Your keyboard should be close to you and directly in front of your body. Adjust the height of the
keyboard so that your shoulders are relaxed.
4. How far away from the screen should you be sitting?
An arms length away.
5. How can you avoid eye fatigue?
Have consistent breaks.
Information and Communications
1. What is data?
Data is collected analysis of facts and statistics.
2. What is information?
Information is facts given or learnt about something.

3. Think of an example of when the following types of data and


information are used to convey a message:

a. Text
You may use text when you are doing an assignment or to send information to others.

b. Images
Images may be used for posters, books or advertisement. It also may be used to examine
experiments.

c. Audio (sound)
Audio is usually used for the blind or new language learners.

d. Video
Videos are used for evidence or documentaries.

4. It was mentioned above that information and communication systems


are fundamental to human activity. Why do you think this is true?
