Emotionally intelligent communicating

In your opinion:
a) What are the important principles for communications that use an
assertive communication style and active listening?

Assertive style of communication is used to deliver message which is


honest expression of ones needs to person who is involved in
conversation while respecting those of the other person. It does not
happen if one is not listening to other, it will not be good communication.
Active listening is the counterpart to assertive communication and to do
so it must comprises at least five important principles which are from
Golemans theory of emotional intelligence; self-awareness, self-
regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills.

b) What practices should be avoided?

In order to make the conversation more effective and worthy, there are
certain practices those should be avoided using active listening skills such
as providing advices, making judgements, denying there is a problem,
ignoring the problem, taking over the problem.
As doing such will put speaker in that situation to think that the other
person is not interested in conversation and also such practices propose
that either there is no problem at all or speaker is not capable of solving
problems. Eventually it will make speaker to end the conversation.

c) In what areas can you improve your own communication skills?

Effective communication is interpersonal skill and communication skills are


fundamental to success in many aspects of life. Communication is not just
exchanging information but to understand the emotion and intentions
behind the information. It is a two-way process; how you convey a
message so that is received and understood, also how you listen to gain
full meaning of what is being said and understood.
Good communication skills can help all aspects of life from professional life
to social life and everything in between, whether this be verbally, written,
visually or non-verbally.
From the professional aspect, if applying for new job or seeking for
promotion; one must need to have demonstrate varied verbal,
presentation skills and effective listening skills to present ideas
appropriately and also to engage audience. Employers also seek many
essential writing skills those must be clear, concise and succinct.
Moreover from social aspect, good communication skills
