CARGO DOORS DESCRIPTION (2)

Mechanical System
The cargo doors are hydraulically opened outwards and upwards. The
locking/unlocking and the latching/unlatching are done manually by:
- a flap handle, operating the locking unlocking shaft,
- a door handle accessible when the flap is open, operates the latching
shaft and the hooks and the drift pins.
On the door, the red flag indicators indicate the locked/unlocked position
of each hook. The indicator flags, visible from outside, are installed at
the lower door area and are flush with the fuselage skin when the door
is locked and protruding when the door is unlocked.
A residual pressure warning light, visible from outside next to the door
operation handle, flashes in case of cabin differential pressure above 2,5
m bars, when the engines are shut down.
An outside control panel is installed on the fuselage on the RH side of
the cargo door near the door operation handle. On this control panel, a
green indicator light comes on when the cargo door is fully open and
locked.

CARGO LIGHTS & POWER OUTLETS DESCRIPTION (2)

The cargo compartments lights are lamps with two fluorescent standard
System Overview T5 tubes and their related ballast units. The lighting of each
compartment is controlled separately by a CARGO COMPT LIGHT
The cargo compartment lighting system contains:
toggle SW installed in the cargo service panel, on the RH side of the
- the panel lighting,
compartment entrance.
- the loading area lighting,
Each cargo service panel has a 115 VAC power outlet.
- the cargo compartment lighting.
The system gets its power supply from the Ground Service Bus (GSB).
Panel Lighting
Each of the two cargo loading control panels and the two cargo door
operation panels integrates one Light Emitting Diode (LED) type light
to bring sufficient lighting of the panel controls. Each panel light
comes on automatically when the ground service network is energized.
The lights cannot be switched manually. The panel lights are supplied
with 28 VDC.
Loading Area Lighting
A cargo loading area light is installed at the FWD and the AFT cargo
compartment entrance, above each cargo door. Each light is of High
Intensity Discharge (HID) type, powered with 115 VAC to bring
sufficient lighting inside and outside the cargo door areas. This lighting
helps the loader driver to bring the loader in the correct position. A

panel controls each light. If the cargo door is closed, the Doors and
Slides Management Control Unit (DSMCU) sends a closed signal,
which will lead to the cut of the light power supply.
Cargo Compartment Lighting
The cargo compartments are equipped with 17 lights installed in the
compartment ceilings:
- 7 in the FWD cargo compartment
- 8 in the AFT cargo compartment and,
- 2 in the BULK cargo compartment.

Components
Transport and Guiding
- the self-erecting PDU,
- the spring-lift PDU.
- a detent position related to the lowered position,
- a hold position (PDU held in 'up' position) to remove inadvertent
ULD movements.
The spring-lift PDU is used for longitudinal ULD movement when it
is running. The spring-lift PDU gives a braking function for the ULDs
when switched off.
For the entire length of both the FWD and AFT cargo compartments,
longitudinally roller tracks are installed. The roller tracks are used to
support transport rollers for better movements of ULDs.
In the cargo door areas, the ball mats are used for ULD translations
in transverse, longitudinal and rotational directions. The ball mats are
provided with an anti-slip surface.
To guide the ULD in transversal and longitudinal direction, the
entrance guides are installed at the door area and in the entrance of
the T-shape area (AFT cargo only).
The guide units are used for loading.
L1W06161 - L0KT0T0 - LM50DVLEVEL0201

The splitter units retractable and override-able are used to split half
size ULD.
The override-able YZ latches are installed on the center line of the
cargo compartment.

Components (continued)
Latching
- YZ-guide when loading or offloading the ULD,
- YZ-latch when the ULD is locked in position.
The retractable YZ-latches are attached on the aircraft centerline in
the ball mat area of the cargo compartments. These latches (commonly
known as '19', '42' and '100') are mounted between the two inboard
roller tracks. Various retractable XZ-latches are installed within the
CLS. They are raised into their upper 'locked' positions directly after
loading of ULD by hand and lowered by foot operation. All these
latches are spring loaded to their lowered 'retracted' position.
The doorsill latches have two functions:
- vertical position for opening and closing the door,
- horizontal position for CLS.
Each doorsill latch has
- one YZ-latch with proximity switch,
- an anti-roll out device.
The proximity switches are of two types:
- the proximity switches-conveyance,
- the proximity switches-doorsill latch.
L1W06161 - L0KT0T0 - LM50DVLEVEL0201

The proximity switches-conveyance are mounted at XZ-latches and

YZ-latches.
The proximity switches-doorsill latches are installed inside the doorsill
latches and monitor the position of the YZ-doorsill latch.

Components (continued)
Control Panels and Boxes
The electrical CLS has:
- controller system components,
- electromechanical components.
One Compartment Control Box per cargo compartment controls and
monitors the PDUs through the Sector Area Control Box, and receives
position signal from the latches proximity switches in order to drive
the PDU.
The Sector Area Control Boxes monitor the signals from the proximity
switches and control the PDUs in their specific sections.
The Door Area Control Box monitors the signals of the proximity
switches in the door area and communicates with the On-Board
Maintenance System. The Outside Control Panel is the main command
interface for the operation of the electrical CLS. The Outside Control
Panel has:
- a power ON/OFF switch,
- a joystick generating the commands IN/OUT/FWD/AFT/SPLIT.
The Inside Control Panel is the second command for the operator.
The joystick generates the command FWD/AFT.
L1W06161 - L0KT0T0 - LM50DVLEVEL0201

All these boxes and panels are supplied by the 28VDC (DC Bus).

Components (continued)
Drainage
The drainage system is installed to prevent accumulation of water or
other liquids in the entire cargo compartment. Sufficient drainage
is done, even with drain paths being partially ineffective or inoperative.
With the aim of controlling the migration of fluids within the A/C:
- drain funnels are installed onto roller tracks to drain off accumulated
fluids,
- drain outlet are installed to drain off fluids.
A drain valve is used for the evacuation of fluids. The drain valve is
opened on ground and closed by pressure in flight.

The Door area Control Box monitors doorsill latch proximity switches.
It controls and monitors the Doors and Slides Management Control Unit

Only one person can operate the electrical CLS in two modes:
- the electrical loading that operates in semi-automatic mode,
- the manual loading that operates in entirely manual mode.
To activate the electrical CLS, the A/C must be on ground and the cargo
doors have to be open. The doorsill latches must be in lowered position.
The Outside Control Panel switch must be on the ON position.
For an electrical loading, if the Outside Control Panel switch is on the

Control Panel and the Inside Control Panel. Once positioning, the ULD
is attached to the latches.
For a manual loading, the Outside Control Panel switch must be on the
OFF position. Then, the ULD is manually positioned in the cargo
compartment and attached to the latches.
