OUTCOMES-BASED COURSE SYLLABUS

LBYCVR2

I. Course Title and Code: Advanced Transportation Engineering Laboratory

(LBYCVR2)
Prerequisites: CIVTREN
Co-Requisite: TRETRAN
No. of Units/Hours: 1 unit/3 laboratory hours per week

II. Course Description:

The laboratory course deals with the hand-on application of transportation
systems engineering and planning using the UTP softwares JICA STRADA 3
and EMME 4. The students will be exposed to the use of the urban
transport planning software using real life examples and problems.

III. Learning Outcomes and Value Aims:

On completion of the laboratory course, the student is expected to be
able to do the
following:
ELGA Student Outcomes (SO) Learning Outcome
(LO)
Creative and (b) An ability to design and LO1. Develop the ability
Critical conduct experiments, as to construct the
Thinker well as to analyze and assigned transport
interpret data network and related
modeling functions in
EMME4
(k) An ability to use the
appropriate techniques, LO2. Develop the skill
skills and modern on the use of the
engineering tools EMME4 software and
necessary for the practice apply it to solve
of civil engineering. transport-related
problems

IV. PROGRAM ASSESSMENT (Reference: Curriculum Mapping of

Student Outcomes):
STUDENT OUTCOME PERFORMANCE INDICATORS ASSESSMENT
METHODS
B2. The student is able to design and conduct
experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data Laboratory
in the field of transportation exercises

K1. The student is able to use the appropriate

techniques, skills and modern engineering tools Term Project Report
necessary for the practice of transportation
engineering.

V. COURSE ASSESSMENT:

As evidence of attaining the above learning outcomes, the student is required to do and submit the
following during the indicated date of the term.

LEARNING OUTCOME REQUIRED OUTPUT EXPECTED DUE DATE

LO1, LO2 Laboratory Exercises Weekly
LO1, LO2 Term Project Report Week 13

Each laboratory exercise will be checked at the end of each meeting and each will be graded depending
on the work done or achieved by the student.

The Term Project Report is the culminating work of the student which would show how much the student
has learned since all the laboratory exercises will be used to produce this Term Project Report.

GRADING SYSTEM
1. General Average The general average of each students grade will be
computed as follows:
Laboratory Exercises = 50%
Overall Laboratory Report/Project = 30%
Final Practical Exam = 20%
-------------------
Total = 100%

2. Final Grade: The final grade will be determined based on the general
average:
4.0: 94.0 and above
3.5 : 88.0 < 94
3.0: 82.0 < 88
2.5 : 76.0 < 82
2.0 : 70.0 < 76
1.5 : 65.0 < 70
1.0 : 60.0 < 65
0.0 : below 60.0

VIII. Requirements
1. Attendance in the laboratory class is required at all times. A student
who is absent for more than two meetings (6 hours) will receive a
failing grade. The student who missed a laboratory class has to work
during his/her extra period to cope up with the miss laboratory
exercise.
2. Laboratory Reports should be accomplished neatly following the
required format, complete with solutions and figures and must be
submitted on the set deadline.
3. A Final Practical Exam will be given as the final requirement of the
course.
