A Prior receiving bunkers
1 Sample of Fuel Oil taken from lower, middle and upper tank of the

26 The Chief Engineer to check and record the shore/barge flow meter
reading
27 The Chief Engineer shall ensure that the vessel is not fitted with
overflow tank. If overflow tank is fitted, the level of oil in the tank
shall be lowered to minimum
28 Ensure that suitable containment devices are fitted around filling
and vent pipes as well as under manifold connection
29 Bunker hose connection and ship line shall be supervised by the
Engineer.
30 Emergency alarm and lines of communication between vessel and
shore/barge are to be established and tested.
31 The Master shall ensure that all officers/crew engaged in bunkering
operations
Are thoroughly familiar with the vessels bunkering system,
including position of overflow pipes, sounding pipes, air pipes and
remote level indicator of tanks.
32 They shall also be familiar with overflow control and emergency
shutdown procedures.

B During bunkering
1 Engineers shall closely monitor the quantity received to ensure a
delivery rate does not exceed the vessels maximum receiving
rate.
2 Ensure that portable pump, oil spill dispersant, spray guns, saw
dust and suitable fire fighting equipments kept ready for used
3 Ensure the vessel is securely moored in order to avoid straining to
the hose.
Attention to be paid to fall and rise of tide.
4 Ensure that the bunker hose is suitably supported to avoid being
crushed between Vessel and quay/barge.
5 Ensure that the required bunkering signal is displayed by day and
by night.
6 Ensure that adequate lighting for night operations.

C After bunkering
1 Prior disconnecting any delivery hose, ensure that the transfer lines
are blown through and the hose is raised to facilitate draining.
2 Ensure that the manifold and tank valve be shut after the hose
been drained.
3 Ensure that the hose disconnection supervise by the second
engineer.
4 Any amount of FO spilled in the containment during
loading/discharging, the amount is to be recorded and properly
disposed.
