Early Life
Simn Bolivar was born in Caracas, New Granada, which is now Napoleon:
Venezuela, on July 24, 1783.
His full name was Simn Jos Antonio de la Santsma Trinidad Bolivar
y Palacios and his parents were Juan Vicente Bolvar y Ponte and Maria
de Concepcin Palacios Blanco. His family was wealthy considering
that they owned prosperous gold and copper mines in Venezuela.
After his parents died, Simn moved to Spain in order to continue his
education. There, he met and married Mara Teresa Rodrguez del Toro
y Alaysa in the yesar of 1802 in Venezuela.
After his wifes dealth, he returned back to Europe and spent time with
Napoleon.
The Beginning Of Military Life
After spending time in Europe, Simn went back to Venezuela. There,
he joined the resistance movement after Napoleon appointed Joseph
Bonaparte the king of Spain and its colonies. The resistance movement
succeeded and gained independence in the year of 1810.
Simn Bolivar again returned to Venezuela in order to seize control of
the country from the Spanish.
On May 14, 1813, Simn Bolivar and his followers invaded Venezuela.
This invasion lead to the formation of the Venezuelan Second Republic
one year later. Bolivar was highly regarded as El Liberator.
Later on, a civil war developed and Simn was forced to flee to Jamaica
and find foreign aid. While in Jamaica, Bolivar wrote his famous letter,
simply called A Letter To Jamaica. The letter explained his future
plan for a republic in South America, which included a parliament and a
life-long president.
The Battle of Boyava
One of Simn Bolivars famous battles was known as
the Battle of Boyaca. During this battle, Simn
Bolivar fought against Spanish General Jos Mara
Barreiro and his soldiers in close proximity to the
Boyaca River, in present day Columbia. Even though
the Spanish army was divided and spread out
strategically, Simn Bolivar and his army were able to
kill or capture all the Spanish soldiers and win the
battle.
Military Life In Full Force
After continually gaining support from Haiti, Simn
Bolivar returned to Venezuela, was involved in many
military battles, and gained control of several territories
along the way.
Under the leadership of Simn Bolivar, Gran Columbia
was established. Gran Columbia contains present-day
Venezuela, Columbia, Panama, and Ecuador.
Later on, Simn Bolivar was appointed Dictator in Peru
in the year of 1824 and also established the country of
Bolivia in 1825.
Conclusion:
Throughout Simn Bolivars military and leadership aspects
of his life, he took inspiration from the success and
establishment of England and the United States of America.
Bolivar strived to implement a parliament that was modeled
after Englands parliament. Additionally, Bolivar wanted to
unite of states in South America, such as the United States.
Simn did succeed in uniting many of the South American
countries in a confederation that was without the control of
the Spanish. Unfortunately, Simn did receive opposition

from the countries united in the Gran Colombia due to the


desire of forming single nations.
On December 17, 1830, Simn Bolivar died in Santa Marta
because of tuberculosis.
