Sketchbook: Are you using yours? Can’t live without it???
Hey all---get a sketchbook--any sketchbook---and get ready to use it this year. Carry it with you at all times and have
some fun drawing supplies to go with. A zip lock bag works really well to hold supplies.
At Grand Island Art in the Park – the judge looked at sketch books along with the artworks, Lona Rowland received
an award for a drawing she had in her book.

Pat Schemmer received 2nd Place at the Grand Island Art in the Park for her photograph of
“The Fiddler Player”
If anyone else receives an award in a show or knows of anyone who has, place it on the blog
or let me know. I'll continue to keep my ears open.

Donna Binfield has received many awards and recognitions for her work, and has shown in regional and national
juried competitions. She has studied under many nationally-known artists, and has conducted classes and
workshops in various medias throughout Nebraska and Kansas. Donna is a past president of the Association of
Nebraska Art Clubs and a Signature Member of the Chicago Pastel Painters. Her life-like drawings of horses and
many years of pencil drawings have led to her keen perception and open expression of the innermost feelings of
her subjects. She paints with passion and understanding, and strives to pass these emotions on to the viewer.
“I was born and raised in Nebraska’s rural farming area. As long as I can remember, I’ve been a lover of animals -
especially horses. Horses have surrounded me all my life - and spending time with them has kept me in the out-of-doors
and in close contact with nature. It is outdoors, surrounded by birds and animals that I feel closest to God - and I strive to
express this feeling to the viewer through my art work.”.
Donna's primary media is pastel however she works in most media - oil acrylic, and watercolor. Binfield will be
teaching landscape, composition and how to paint animals in the medium of your choice. Please bring all the
supplies needed for your particular medium. Bring some pictures of your favorite animals or landscape for
reference.
WORKSHOP REGISTRATION: Sat. 9-5, Sunday 9-3pm with the judge’s critic 3 to 4pm
