For those able to come early our next meeting will be at 4:00 p.m. CT at Cherry Hills. A light
supper will be a 6:00 and the regular meeting will start at 7:00.
We will be able to start at 4:00 p.m. CT at Cherry Hills for people who want to get more done at the Sand Painter's
meeting...Joan will start some of you and Pat will have the tile texture clay projects from last meeting there and able to
complete too. Supper will still be at 6:00 with things starting and continuing at 7:00. Come when you can and join the fun.

No member will want to miss out on this watercolor technique

for beginners and advanced.
Notes from Joan Swim...I want to work with the members in getting familiar with the watercolor technique of wet into wet
washes and charging the color. I will have projects for people to work on to practice with the techniques and then members can
venture off into designing their own project with this technique. The subject matter of your project can be almost
anything...close up reference of people, things, animals, or landscapes.

Supplies will be provided or you are welcome to work with your own. Joan will have examples available via Facebook
throughout the week. She already has one posted.

June Minutes
The Sand Painters Art Guild met June 22, 2010, 4:00 pm CT at Pat Schemmer’s studio near Valentine, NE.
Nineteen members gathered to work on “Textures in Clay”. The group took a break to have shish-ka-bobs about
6:00 o’clock. Debby Galloway, Mary Eatinger, Hedda Matheson, and Joan Swim shared their works and then a
short meeting was held. Pat reported that our accountant recommends no change in our tax status. The treasure,
Eileen Beman, reported the check book balance was $1144.17. Joan Swim and Doris Heath painted the Pamida
windows and the Sand Painters received $100. The group decided that they would give an in house scholarship to
Joan Swim and Priscilla Portenier of $200 when they present a class that they took at ANAC by Bob Rohm. For
those wishing to be more prepared for the class, the book The Painterly Approach” by Bob Rohm is invaluable.
An idea for a fund raiser was brought forth by Anita Masterson. She suggested that we have an Internet art show for
Bull Bash in February. We could pick our own judges and charge for submission.
The Art Big and Small program date was set for July 10th at 1:00 p.m. CT. at the old high school building. The
program will be held monthly throughout the summer. Janine Holmes, Hedda Matheson and Joan Swim signed up
to participate in the program.
An invitation to Thedford’s Open Art Show, starting June 28th, was extended to the Sand Painter members.
The show will be judged July 1, 2010.
An ANAC report was given by Joan Swim and Hedda Matheson. Members were reminded that disqualifications of
art work are a disappointing occurrence and it is better to have your art work meet all the requirements listed in the
ANAC rules.
The meeting adjourned and more work in clay was accomplished through the evening between the storm and wind.
Welcome to the new members that joined, Robyn Pyner of Valentine, Jan Rosa of Valentine and Roxy and Joan
Potter of Valentine.

Sketchbook: Are you using yours? Can’t live without it???
Hey all---get a sketchbook--any sketchbook---and get ready to use it this year. Carry it with you at all times and have
some fun drawing supplies to go with. A zip lock bag works really well to hold supplies.

At Grand Island Art in the Park – the judge looked at sketch books along with the artworks, Lona Rowland received
an award for a drawing she had in her book.

Resumes are due.

If you have your resumes done, you can e-mail or hard copy them to Pat at any time. Thanks.

Donna Binfield has received many awards and recognitions for her work, and has shown in regional and national
juried competitions. She has studied under many nationally-known artists, and has conducted classes and
workshops in various medias throughout Nebraska and Kansas. Donna is a past president of the Association of
Nebraska Art Clubs and a Signature Member of the Chicago Pastel Painters. Her life-like drawings of horses and
many years of pencil drawings have led to her keen perception and open expression of the innermost feelings of
her subjects. She paints with passion and understanding, and strives to pass these emotions on to the viewer.

“I was born and raised in Nebraska’s rural farming area. As long as I can remember, I’ve been a lover of animals -
especially horses. Horses have surrounded me all my life - and spending time with them has kept me in the out-of-doors
and in close contact with nature. It is outdoors, surrounded by birds and animals that I feel closest to God - and I strive to
express this feeling to the viewer through my art work.”.

Donna's primary media is pastel however she works in most media - oil acrylic, and watercolor. Binfield will be
teaching landscape, composition and how to paint animals in the medium of your choice. Please bring all the
supplies needed for your particular medium. Bring some pictures of your favorite animals or landscape for
