Introducing the New Model
The Red Hat Platform Business Unit introduced new subscription
options on 1 October, 2013 and announced the plan to retire the
previous model, originally introduced in 2010.

Why?
Align RHEL Packaging with the Open Hybrid Cloud
Create subscription models that are portable between physical, virtual, and cloud

Complement the RHEL OpenStack Platform


Begin creating a single packaging model across Red Hat Infrastructure products

Improve Support Differentiation beyond SLA


Enhance our Good, Better, Best offerings with Life Cycle and Portability improvements

Simplify Selling Motion


Clean up elements of the portfolio based on experience since 2010

Other Red Hat products follow new subscription model (Red Hat Cloud
Infrastructure, Cloudforms, RHEV) to simplify selling/purchasing
The variants of RHEL have been transitioned or grandfathered in. The HPC
and Grid models will be transitioned by September 1
OEM buying programs and Embedded have transitioned. Service Provider
will transition over the course of the year as part of the CCSP launch

Next Step: Complete Transition
On 1 September, 2015 the 2010 packaging options will retire.

Why?
Recognize that the majority of new deals and renewals is on the current
model
Some partners sell the new model exclusively.

Eliminate confusion
Sellers can now focus conversations on value proposals instead of tactical decisions around which
pricing model to use.

Simplify selling motion


Reduce the number of SKUs that sellers and customers have to manage.

Now what about the 2010 model?
Retirement on 1 September 2015
Customers must switch to the new model at renewal
After 1 September, grandfathering rules will apply
2010 SKUs available only through exception process upon robust business justifcation

The transition is proving to be cost-neutral in most cases
