ASSESSMENT ON THE INCIDENCE OF LOW BACK

PAIN AMONG EMPLOYEES ON MEDICAL COLLEGES

OF NORTHERN PHILIPPINES AND ITS EFFECT ON
THEIR PERFORMANCE LEVEL
Abstract

Objective: This study aims to assess and analyses the incidence of low back pain among
employees of the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines.

Methods: The researchers focused mainly on assessing the incidence of low back pain
among the teaching staff of MCNP and its effect on the performance level. The study
consequently included both sexes with age ranging from 25 to 35 years old, works as a
teaching staff of MCNP and is suffering from low back pain. Simple random sampling was
used and utilized in which basing from the sampling frame, 20 respondents were selected.
The self-made questionnaire was given to secure the needed information from the
respondents. Descriptive statistics was used in the research. Descriptive statistics was
utilized in summarizing the data. Frequency and percentage distribution was used mostly in
the interpretation of data gathered.

Result/conclusion: This study was brought into being to assess whether or not low back
pain affects the performances of the teaching staff of MCNP. A self-made questionnaire was
given to the respondents to enable us to understand the cause of low back pain, the
movement that increase or alleviate the pain, whether radiating pain is present or not,
whether the pain is associated with rest, activity or poor posture, whether the intensity,
duration ,quality and frequency of pain changes with activity. Based on the gathered data,
most of the respondents who have a low back pain were female and single. Most of them felt
the pain while performing their duties and activities in a lumbar extended position. most of
the low back pain sufferers experienced radiating pain from the low back to other parts of the
body especially in the gluteal region, that most of the pain is associated with activity, and
that the intensity, duration, quality and frequency of pain changes with activity. However, in
general, 75% of the respondents agreed that the low back pain affects their performance.

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to assess and compare the knowledge, skills and
attitude acquired by Radiologic Technology students in Public and Private Affiliating Hospitals
and its impact to their performance.

Methods: The respondents of this study include all Radiologic Technology level IV
undergoing the Internship Training Program of the school in 6 affiliating centers in Manila.
The researchers used the developed evaluation checklist of the Internship Training Program
both for students and the affiliating centers to gather the needed data. These checklists are
given to the students and hospitals at the end of the semester. Grades of students from their
affiliating centers are also collated and served as another source of data. After the evaluation
checklist was filled by the students and gathered information was compiled, data analyzed,
comprehend and outlined.

UTILIZATION/CONSUMPTION OF HERBAL
PLANTS AS MEDICINE/FOOD
Abstract

Objective: This study aims to investigate the extent of utilization and consumption of
herbal plants as medicine/food supplement among employees of MCNP-ISAP.

Methods: The study respondents planned to have 100% of the population of MCNP-ISAP
faculty comprising a total of 262 for the school year 2009-2010. These are the teaching
staff, support staff and the administration. Actual retrieved questionnaire was 24% of the
population. A self-made questionnaire will be utilized in the gathering the primary data.
Secondary data will be gathered through the records of the MCNP-ISAP specifically the total
number of full time employees and the number of staff in each division. Descriptive statistics
was used in the research. Descriptive statistics are utilized in summarizing data such Survey
researches. Frequency distribution percentage is used in profiling Summarizing weighted
mean is used in measuring extent of utilization of herbal plants as medicine and food
supplement.

Results/conclusion: It is concluded on this study that herbal plant are not utilizes by the
by the employees of MCNP-ISAP due to lack of supports and advertisement in using herbal
plants.

THE LEARNING STYLES OF STUDENTS

CHEMISTRY AND ITS RELATIONSHIP ON
Abstract
THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
Objectives: This study aims to determine the learning styles of the first year college who
are enrolled in Inorganic and Organic Chemistry.

Methods: The respondents of this study are the first year students taking up Inorganic and
Organic Chemistry of the Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines under the General
Education Department. The researchers used the survey questionnaire. It has two parts:
Part I consist of items about the profile of the respondents. Part 2 is divided into five
components; such items are on emotional, sociological, physical stimuli and environmental
stimuli. The items on this were rated through the five-point scale. Dunn and Dunn
developed the questionnaire and this was used by Tumanguil (2003) in a research
conducted about the learning styles of students in Biology. The profile of the respondents
determined through frequency counts and percentage distribution. The weighed mean was
employed to find out the extent of the different learning styles. In relation to different
styles, T-test was also used to find out if there is a significant difference on the learning
styles of the respondents when they are grouped according to gender. ANOVA was used
when grouped according to age, academic performance and educational attainment of
parents.

Result/Conclusion: Based on the data gathered, there are no significant differences in the
learning styles of students along emotional, sociological, physical, psychological and
environmental stimuli when they are grouped RD according to their gender TH (except for

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the performance of the Information Technology 3 rd
year and 4th year students with and without computer at home in their programming
courses.

Methods: This study involved the two sections of the third year and fourth I.T. students of
the college of Information and Technology at International School of Asia and the Pacific.
Thirty-four students from the third year and twenty-five from the fourth year. The
researchers floated questionnaires personally to the respondents. After the retrieval of
questionnaires the researchers collated, interpreted, presented them in tables and analyzed
the data gathered. This study used descriptive and inferential tools. The profile of the
respondents was analyzed by using simple frequency and percentage counts. To analyzed
the perception of the respondents, weighed mean was utilized, to further interpret the
weighed mean, a criterion scale was used. And to test the relationship between the
perception and profile of the respondents, the Chi-square test was utilized.

Result/conclusion: The scholastic performance of the I.T. students in programming

courses is average and this was not influenced by the different profile variables as well as
the factors affecting the performance of the students in programming courses as
manifested by the acceptance of null hypothesis. There are other factors which have caused
the average performance of the I.T. students in computer programming courses. While all
the factors affecting their performance are favorably perceived except student factors, it is
evident and clears that student themselves were reasons for such result. The students
showed poor study habits, lack of interest and lack of self-discipline which contribute a great
influence on their performance in computer programming courses.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to determine the number and percentage of

students who failed to jo9in the Weekend Encounter so that the persons involved
can plan for better ways to attain a complete attendance.

Methods: There were a total of 40 class advisers from the first year level and
groups of transferees and professional program of both MCNP and ISAP who
participated in the completion of this research. The data were gathered from the
attendance record of the class advisers. They were asked to submit the names of
the non-attendees from which the computation was based. The statistical analysis
of the study was based on the Frequency and percentage of the data gathered.

Result/Conclusion: Based on the data presented, out of 2,267 students, 2,123 or

Result/Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, Students of ISAP have a
good background about Earth science and Ecology but limited knowledge on the
fields of Chemistry and Physics. The Earth Science and Ecology teachers have a
very good level of performance which implies that they know and use strategies
and techniques in teaching these subjects.
