Step 1: Colour Reference

When using a set of paints for the first time it is a good idea
to test them all on a separate piece of your Watercolour
Paper. This gives you a clear idea of the actual colour in
the tube and what they look like when watered down.

You dont always have to paint

lightest to darkest with
Watercolour

Step 2: Sky

Wet your sky area with clean water with a Hake Brush.
Then paint in Blue from top to bottom, dragging the paint
down as you go to avoid an uneven surface.

Step 3: Ocean

With your Squirrelon Brush, paint in the Ocean with Prussian

Blue, again painting from top to bottom.

Step 4: Waves

Using your #10 Fat Liner Brush and Sap Green, paint wavy
horizontal lines across the surface of the water. This
creates simple and great looking waves.

Step 5: Paynes Grey and Black

Onto your Palette squeeze out some Permanent Red,

Vermillion, Permanent Yellow, Paynes Grey and Black.
Create a watery mix of Paynes Grey and apply it to areas
of black or metal using your #2 Squirrel Mop Brush.

Step 6: Red

With Permanent Red paint in the bottom of the ship,

remember to water the paint down in areas of light.

Step 7: Orange

Using mixtures of the Permanent Yellow, Paynes Grey and

Vermillion, paint in the boat. Remember to paint darker
tones into areas of shadow and bright Yellow into the
areas in sunlight.

Step 8: White

Leave the White areas that are in light free of paint. Simply
Paint in the areas of White in Shadow with a watered
mixture of Black and Blue.

Step 9: Final details

Line the bottom edge of the ship with Paynes Grey and
finish any areas of detail with a Fine Liner Brush.

Until next time...
