1. INTRODUCE IT! (large group) WEL

COM
E
Welcome the kids back for the second day of Ocean Commotion.
Challenge the students to participate in the contest between Huddle Groups
by bringing mission money each day and a signed copy of the Take-Home
Sheet completely filled out.

2. FUN AND GAMES: JUMP AND SHOUT

Use Huddle Group time to get to know the kids. Do the same thing you did
yesterday by going around the Huddle Group. The first person is to say
his/her name. The next person is to say his/her name and the name of the
first person. The third person introduces himself and then repeats the names
of the second and first students. Continue in like manner until everyone has
been introduced (multiple times).
Tell the students that you are going to ask them a series of review questions
from yesterday.
You will ask a question and they are to jump to the right if the question is
true or jump to the left if it is not true. SAY: Everybody stand up for Jesus!
Spread yourselves apart!
1. It took God many years to create the earth. (Left)
2. The first thing God created was the light. (Right)

3. PREVIEW what we are going to learn today. Discuss the posters for Hydro the
Whale and Hammer the Shark. Hammer tells us to NAIL obedience. Noah has a
big choice to make! If you love me, keep my commandmentsJohn 14:15.
What do you think Noah will do?

TEACH IT! (Bible Lesson Room)

[The Bible lesson will be taught in a large room by grade. See schedule for time and
location. The information below is for use in general discussion, Huddle Groups, crafts
and review questions.]

LEADER BIBLE BACKGROUND

The people who lived between Adam and Noah made up 10 different generations.
Those who lived during this time proved themselves to be seekers of pleasure.
In Gods sight, they were filled with evil thoughts continually. God was grieved in
His heart that their sin was so prevalent and so wicked.
Soon He would destroy the world He had made and the people in it.
One man and his family would be spared. God would do a new work through Noah
and his sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
God told Noah what was going to happen to the earth, but He explained that Noah
and his family would be spared.
Noah was to build an ark, a large hollow box designed to float.
He gave the dimensions as 300 cubits long, 30 cubits high, and 50 cubits wide. If a
cubit is 18 in length, then the ark would have had these approximate
measurements: 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 50 feet tall. (The length of a cubit
could be as much as 21.5 inches.)
The ark was not constructed for beauty or speed, but for stability in an ocean of
commotion.
Today modern shipbuilders use these same ratios to build cargo ships that sail
safely around the world. Military vessels are also constructed in light of these
ratios.
Noah had the benefit of knowledge from centuries of civilization. Tubal-Cain made
instruments for cutting out of bronze and iron. Jubal made all kinds of musical
instruments. People in Noahs day lived in cities (Genesis 4:1724).
Noah may have even been some kind of an architect or engineer who would have
understood how to build a ship with such dimensions.

Day 2: K2nd
Noah had three sons who would have helped and who probably would have known
how to
hire a
THE CROSSROADS (Large Group) work
force to
assist with the building of the ark.

God had given Noah the desire to love Him and to reject the evil practices of
others. God looked for someone with this kind of faith to save the human race.
Noah was His man!
Noah put his faith in God into action. When God said, Build an ark, Noah did not
argue or say, I do not understand or I cant do that. He sat down and figured
out what needed to be done.
That is what God wants from usOBEDIENCE without any arguing, OBEDIENCE
immediately, and OBEDIENCE with a happy spirit.
God is looking for those who can demonstrate that kind of faith and obedience. Are
you one of those people? Do you love God enough to take a stand and give your
life to Christ? Do you love God enough to obey His command to come and follow
Him? If you do, then its time to stand up be part of Gods forever family.
Share the ABCs of Salvation and then close in prayer. Be alert to any student who
may want to speak with you about this decision.

APPLY IT! (Huddle Group)

POINT to the chart that shows the picture of the arks dimenstions as being two school
buses, three giraffes, and one-and-a-half football fields. Attach these motions to each
dimension so the children can remember. Every day in the morning and at noon, we are
going to demonstrate these motions as we call out the dimensions of the ark. (By Friday,
no one will remember the small, rounded boat with smiling animals hanging over the
side.)
WIDTH: Two school busesHold up two fingers and then put hands on the wheel
and pretend to be driving.
HEIGHT: Three giraffes Hold up three fingers, cup hands and raise them above
your head as high as you can to form a giraffes neck.
LENGTH: One-and-a-half football fields Turn to the side like Dak Prescott and
pretend to throw a long pass into the end zone.

EXPERIMENT: Consider using this experiment for Day 2: Sink or Float.

Supplies: Aluminum foil pop-up sheets, one shallow pan of water, small glass polished
rocks
Instructions:

Day 2: K2nd
SAY: Today you are going to build your own boats, but unlike Noah, you will not be
given any dimensions.
SAY: Using only a sheet of aluminum foil, your goal is to make a boat that will
float.
SAY: Once you see that it can float, test it by seeing how many glass gems it can
hold and still stay afloat.
Let everyone try their boat out to see if it floats.

Day 2: K2nd
Use these as discussion questions to debrief.
What interesting fact did you learn today about Noah?
Why would obeying God be hard for Noah?
If Noah had not obeyed God, what do you think would have happened?
Since God does not speak to us vocally today, where can you go to find out what
God wants you to do?
Noah obeyed God because he loved Him. What are some areas in your life where
you find it hard to obey?
What does our memory verse today say about love and obedience?
Are there any changes you need to make?

BIBLE MEMORY ACTIVITY (Huddle Group)

Go over the meaning of the verse. Have the students repeat it several times with you
and then use the motions if appropriate.
If you love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15
Use these motions to teach the verse.
If you love me Crisscross hands criscrossed over chest, then point
upward with both index fingers.
Keep Hands back over chest again
My commandments Open hands as if you are holding an open
Bible.
John 14:15 Open hands as if you are holding an open Bible.
When the students are ready, have them say the verse together. Then have
them say it to the person on their right, then to the person on their left and
then to the Huddle Group Leader.
Toss a beach ball around the Huddle Group. Every time someone touches the
ball, he or she must say the verse aloud.

WRAP UP & GOODBYE (Huddle Group)

Give
each student a Take-Home Sheet for Day 2. As time allows, work through some of
the activities. Challenge the students to complete all the activities.
Send home any special announcements placed in your room for Tuesday.
Here are some review questions to use:
1. Where in the Bible do we find the directions God gave Noah? (Genesis 6)
2. Describe the kind of wood that Noah was to use.
3. What were the dimensions of the ark?
4. How long did it take Noah to build the ark? (120 years)
5. Who was in the ark with him? (his wife, his three sons and their wives)
6. Why did God choose Noah for this mission?
7. Describe how Noah responded to Gods call.
