Work Ethics

Work ethic is how a person feels towards his or her job and how that person carries out his or her responsibilities.Work

ethics include how that person behaves and interacts with his or her coworkers.It also includes honesty and accountability. Ones

work ethics tell what kind of a person he or she is.

The name of my first interviewee is Russell Tomlin.He is currently a librarian at San Leandro High School. Mr.Tomlin

was also a teacher and hes been with the San Leandro school district for 30 years.He can be reached at

510-618-4605.Mr.Tomlins definition of work ethics is how someone approaches his or her job based on his or her personal

moral code.Mr.Tomlins work ethic is good.

He could improve his work ethics by talking with other working professionals and discussing ethical world dilemmas

and how other people would solve them.In his opinion, the work ethics of students currently graduating from high school

depends on the students. The work ethics of high school students is still developing so they can have lapses at times where they

might consider cheating on assignments.Overall, they work hard and its a working process.In order for the work ethics of high

school students to improve, they must seek the people they respect and must be honest.Students must have high principles and

talking to students about personal work issues has to happen.

Linda Thurston is the teacher for San Leandro High Schools yearbook and journalism class. Ms.Thurston has been

with the high school for 16 years and she can be contacted at 510- 618-4600 Ext:2200. Mrs.Thurstons definition of work ethics

is doing the moral thing at work such as not stealing from the boss or going behind a coworkers back to tell on him or her to the

boss.

Ms.Thurstons work ethics is good because she is honest.To improve her work ethics, Ms.Thurston does not have to do

anything currently because she is happy with her work ethics. The work ethics of graduating SLHS students varies. She said it

varies because his or her work ethics depends on that person.

Ian Burns has been teaching geometry and algebra I at SLHS for 3 years and he can be reached at 510-618-4600.His

definition of work ethics is it depends on the job. In his opinion, the profession that is at the top is doctors because they really

have an impact on other people. When it comes to teaching, it is always about improving the lives of his students and his career

requires a lot of compassion.

Mr.Burn said his work ethics is good because he is a hard worker. He cares about his students and he is motivated to

improve.Mr.Burns could improve his work ethics by keeping in mind that he is putting his name on what he is doing when he is

working and to value himself and his work.The work ethics of graduating high school students varies.Students can improve their
work ethics by asking themselves what it is thats important to them.If its important to them, they must put themselves to it

because its meaningful.

Amy Olson has been working at SLHS as a counseling secretary for 8 years.Ms.Olson can be reached at (510)

618-4600 Ext:2164.Ms.Olsons definition of work ethics is working hard to help as much as students as she can because there is

a lot to do to help those who come from different backgrounds.

Ms.Olsons work ethics is really good because she works hard.Ms.Olson can improve her work ethics by taking on

more new initiatives and taking the time to help students.In her opinion,the work ethics of high school students currently

graduating varies.Some students are less motivated even though theres a lot of oportunities and theyre not seeking things that

are beneficial to them.

The last person I interviewed is Reynalda Lozano and she is currently a senior at SLHS. She is working at the Gap

Factory as a seasonal sales associate but she does not remember her start date and she can be contacted at 510-753-9882.

Lozanos definition of work ethics is having responsibility,integrity,and discipline when doing her job.

Lozanos work ethics is good because she is really responsible when it comes to her job and she has discipline and

integrity as well. Lozano could improve her work ethics by being more responsible than she is at the moment and putting more

effort. In her opinion, the work ethics of students currently graduating high school varies because some students do the right thing

while others do not.

In my opinion, work ethics means whether I do the right thing or not.My work ethics is mostly good because I do the

right thing by not cheating when it comes to school assignments because doing so will be against my moral code and I am

responsible however,not always.Yes,my work ethics can definitely be improved since I am still young. I can improve my work

ethics by being more responsible.The work ethics of some students my age is bad while some are good because it depends on the

student. Some students my age are responsible and they do the right thing by working hard on their own instead of attempting to

earn something by cheating while some students are not responsible enough and they do not think constantly cheating is morally

wrong.In conclusion,I want more students my age to improve their work ethics by working on them now before they enter the

real adult world.
