Tugas Hukum Kekekalan energi Mekanik

1. Sebuah bola yang bermassa 0,25 kg dilempar vertical ke atas dengan kelajuan awal
20 m/s. Jika gesekan udara diabaikan, berapa ketinggian yang dapat dicapai bola
tersebut?
2. A 5 kg mass on a horizontal table is connected by an ideal string over an ideal pulley
to a 3 kg mass that hangs freely as shown in the figure.

The system is held at rest and released at time t = 0. You make measurements that
show that when the 3.00 kg mass has fallen thru 0.80 m, the speed of the 5.00 kg
mass is 1.50 m/s. Your task is to determine whether there is friction between the
table and the 5 kg mass and if so what the coefficient of kinetic friction must be.

3.

The figure above shows a pendulum with a small bob of mass m at the end of a
massless, stretchless string of length L. A peg is located 2/3 L directly underneath
the point of suspension for the string. What initial angle, 0, must the pendulum be
released from so that it just completes a loop-the-loop?

4.

A winch is used to lift a 200 kg mass to the roof of a 3 story building (a height of
10 meters). Assuming that the winch works at a steady rate of 200 Watts, how
long will it take to lift the object to the roof. Ignore any frictional effects.

5. An object which weighs 10 N is dropped from rest from a height of 4 meters

above the ground. When it has free-fallen 1 meter its total mechanical energy
with respect to the ground is

a. 2.5 J

b. 10 J

c. 30 J

d. 40 J

6. A worker pushes a 50.0-kg cylinder up a frictionless incline at constant speed to a

height of 3-meters. A diagram of the situation and a free-body diagram is shown
below. Note that the force of gravity has two components (parallel and
perpendicular component); the parallel component balances the applied force and
the perpendicular component balances the normal force.

Of the forces acting upon the cylinder, which one(s) do work upon it?
7. Consider the falling motion of the ball in the following two frictionless situations.
For each situation, indicate what type of forces are doing work upon the ball.
Indicate whether the energy of the ball is conserved and explain why. Finally,
indicate the kinetic energy and the velocity of the 2-kg ball just prior to striking
the ground.

8. A 2kg metal ball is suspended from a rope. If it is released from point A and swings
down to the point B (the bottom of its arc) what is its velocity at point B?

9. The mass of a pendulum is 0.2 kg. The pendulum length is 0.70 m. and the mass is
pulled 20 cm from the resting position and released. How much kinetic energy does
the mass possess as it swings through the lowest position? How fast does it travel at
the lowest position?
10. How hard must a basketball be thrown (initial velocity) straight up in order to reach
the height of the goal (10 feet above the floor) if the ball is launched from the players
head height (6 feet off the ground)?
11. Willie is riding his bicycle with a speed of 15 m/s and comes to a hill. He coasts up the hill
without pedaling. How high does he get if you ignore friction? Note: it appears that there is
not enough information to solve this problem - no mass given, no shape or slope of the hill.
However, with energy conservation, you can easily solve the problem.
12. The Loop-the-loop carnival ride consists of a roller coaster executing a vertical loop
with a speed great enough so that the centrifugal force of the cart on the track
overcomes gravity by a factor of 3. The roller coaster is released from a tower of
sufficient initial height. Neglecting friction, how high must the tower be if the radius
of the loop is 6 m.?
