The newly elected government proposes to make Goa, Indias
first beggar-free state. Chief Minister, Parrikar, recognized
the need for curtailing the increase in the begging menace
in Goa and suggested that the state will achieve its goal by
establishing a full fledged rehabilitation centre for beggars
and also for the destitute.

The sawfish or the carpenter fish, as it is more

popularly known, is listed as an Endangered or
Critically Endangered species by the IUCN, and face a
serious threat of extinction. In fact, globally the sawfish
population has reduced by less than 10 %. Recently,
fishermen in Cutbona, returned to the shore with one
such sawfish and reportedly, this is first such instance
when a sawfish got entangled in their nets, as usually
due to its make, the sawfishes cut the net easily and
escape. These fishes are also rare to sight and play a
crucial role in the marine eco system.

The government aims to inculcate better reading habits
among the citizens of the state and plans to uplift the
village libraries to achieve this. The village libraries which
are operated and managed by the Directorate of Art and
Culture will be enhanced to serve as model reading centres

and financial support will be provided to them. In total,
there are 178 government run libraries in the state
including the Central Library in Panjim and a District

Crocodiles in open rivers are an expected sight and reality,

but to see crocodiles in fresh water lakes in populated
area is not often heard of. In two separate incidents,
crocodiles were sighted in fresh water lakes in South Goa.
A crocodile was sighted in the freshwater lake at Benaulim
in Tolleaband; and to no surprise, drew the attention of
onlookers. Locals also spotted crocodiles sun-bathing at
Balli in Canacona around late last month as well.

Pedestrians first
In a special drive, Goa Police aims to
give pedestrians their right to cross
the roads, especially when they use
the zebra crossing to do so. The aim
of this drive is to inculcate traffic
discipline amongst the motorists
when they are approaching a zebra
crossing. During this drive, police plans to implement strict
actions against motorists denying pedestrians the right to
cross on marked zebra crossings. To begin with, this drive
is being undertaken in the major cities of Goa, including,
Margao, Ponda, Mapusa, Panjim and Vasco.

ATIENCE, persistence, cleverness

qualities or want to shape them,
then the newly opened Mystery Rooms
in Calangute, is for you. In true sense, the
challenges at Mystery Rooms unlocks the
Sherlock among its players. So, what are
these mystery rooms?
Simply put, you will be locked in one of
the many rooms, and you need to escape
out of it, before the time allotted to you
gets over, or else face consequences. Sounds
simple isnt it? I mean, whats the big deal in
escaping out of a room.. Wrong. In order
to escape out of these rooms, you need to
crack a series of codes and puzzles using
wit more than grit. And believe me, even
the best of minds can get challenged by the
complexity of the codes. In fact, before we
were locked away to escape one of these
rooms, we were warned about the penalties,

lest we get frustrated at being locked up and
start breaking furniture. Ha!
In Goa, there are 4 escape challenges,
namely The Hurt Locker, which includes
bomb diffusing; Lockout, which is a prison
break challenge; Abduction, a game where
you need to escape; and finally the most
difficult of all, Crime in the Woods a murder
mystery. My team and I had to break out of a
prison in the Lockout challenge and it was an
exhilarating one hour of our lives, when all we
cared about was escaping before the time runs
out. There were moments we sailed through Mystery Rooms Goa has these
and cracked one code after another, and there four escape challenges
were moments when we got stuck at more
than one clue for minutes at a stretch. The
outcome of the challenge, I shall not reveal,
but to experience the adventure of it, you need
to visit the mystery rooms yourself, perhaps,
with a crazy and witty bunch of your gang.
Mystery Rooms is Goas first Real Life
Escape Challenge game and is an initiative
by the Kickass Adventures. The challenges,
which are best experienced in teams are
thrilling indeed and give a kick as team
members rush against the clock to ESCAPE.
Each mystery room has a theme to it, for
instance a lock up theme, or a murder
mystery, and teams are usually given 1 hour to
complete the challenge. The challenges range
from easy to very hard in their difficulty levels
and it is advised to start with a less difficult
challenge, rather than going for the toughest
