STRATEGIC APPROACHES
ACUF's broad objectives are carried through five Strategic Approaches of Research, Education and Training, Advocacy and Policy
Dialogues, Action Projects/Programmes and Networking and Building Alliances.

RESEARCH
Research is one of the key strategic approaches of the Foundation to achieve the objects of the Foundation. ACUF's research priorities are structured
into Strategic, Socio-economic, Clinical, Basic science and Population health research. Specifically, Asthma researches are carried out under asthma
biology, asthma treatments, asthma diagnosis, asthma types, asthma management and asthma prevention.
To ensure full 'buy-in', ownership and impact, our research framework recognizes the strategic roles and importance of critical stakeholders -
researchers, clinicians, people with asthma, the business community, the funders and the general public; hence, assign them roles from the
inception of any research to the completion and dissemination stages. Most importantly, involving people affected by asthma at all stages of our
research help us to determining the priorities, strategy, applications and the skill requirement for the researcher to be involved. Their involvement
increases the likelihood of the success of some of the research projects.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

ACUF provides educational resources that inform patients, medical professionals and the general public about the latest clinical advances,
management and treatment options for asthma disorders. Specialized trainings are provided for schools in the management of asthma,
anaphylaxis and other respiratory conditions.
ACUF aspires to further empower the public (schools, medical professionals and support groups) towards effective, representative and
independent asthma, allergy and chronic respiratory disease management by creating opportunities to build their capacity. In addition, ACUF

organizes trainings and periodic workshops and seminars as means of providing support covering all levels and types of leadership and decision
making in relevant sectors. Some of our education and training programmes are on:
Leadership and Governance
Business Management and Global Education
Diseases Management and Education
Vocational/Business Skills Education and Development

ADVOCACY, POLICY ANALYSIS AND DIALOGUES

ACUF understands the critical role Advocacy, Policy Analysis and Dialogues play in highlighting the needs, safeguarding the rights and participation
of people; most especially, those with asthma, allergy and respiratory diseases. These diseases threaten society with increasing costs and can
reduce quality of life and number of healthy life years for children and adults across the world.

A common concern among patients is that these diseases are not considered as important as other chronic diseases within the public opinion and
among policy makers. This leads to ignorance about the causes and consequences of asthma, allergy, and COPD, which negatively affects patients
and increases the problem over time. As a Foundation advocating for patients with asthma, allergy, and COPD, we aim to raise the profile of
asthma, allergy and airways diseases, to position them as chronic and sometimes severe diseases among the public.

Our advocacy allows for constructive participation and integration of patients perspective in policy formulation. ACUF acts as a liaison between
people with allergy, asthma and COPD and policymakers, enabling the patient perspective across the decision and legislative process.

We promote awareness of such impactful changes towards policy makers. We connect the decisions made by policy makers with real people
through our network of patients and we bring back to the political representatives the results these decisions have in everyday lives.

Our advocacy campaigns also provide information and management tools to asthma patients, medical and health professionals and the general
public on various innovative ways to manage asthma as well as new/emerging thinking in the health and other social sectors.

NETWORKS AND PARTNERSHIPS

ACUF believes so much in the power of collectivity; hence, build strategic networks and partnerships with local, regional and international
organizations to ensure the mandates of the Foundation are achieved. ACUF is currently a member of various organizations within and outside
Nigeria and partners with healthcare professionals who share our vision and mission.

ACUF develops and promotes long-term partnerships with healthcare professionals, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the scientific
research community and industry. Strong partnerships provide resources and allow for the distribution of workloads, while increasing the impact of
work performing and building upon the successes of policy advocacy, analysis and dialogues towards achieving major initiatives.

Amaka Onyemaechi Chiwuike-Ube is truly one of the most inspiring women, very creative,
determined, skillful and focused. She espoused some of the African and christian family
values like humility and wives honoring their husbands. she made hospital visitation part of
her weekly activities. During such visitations, she prayed and in some cases, paid hospital
bills of patients who were unable to settle their bills. She was very industrious and engaged
in any legitimate business to support her family and community. She mentored so many
young women, the vulnerable in the society and stopped at nothing in recreating under
performing lives. She built people and taught them the art of passion for prot.

Amaka transited unto eternal glory in the early hours of Monday, July 4th 2016 leaving behind indelible footprints in
the sands of time, with four young children, a husband and host of other relations to mourn her.

In memory of her very short but impactful life and, to continue the very ideals she lived for and to help asthma
patients live a better life, the Amak Chiwuike-Uba Foundation (ACUF) was established.
