Purpose: Begin thinking through what you will do to make a difference in the community that is affected by
your topic. Plan out your fifteen hours with the end in mind. Your goal is to positively impact someone. This
form must be completed by Feb. 17 and included in your graduation project electronic portfolio. You are to
answer the questions below in complete, well thought-out, mature sentences. Also, If you intend to have a
mentor (teacher, boss, business owner, etc.), please save all email correspondence, as this is optional but
worth two extra credit points to your Graduation Project grade.
My topic is essentially the impact of installing solar panels, and other green technology across the
roads of the world.
2.Name the community that is affected by your topic. Explain how the community is affected.
The whole world is affected by this. We, as a society, still rely to strongly on the use of fossil fuels and
other nonrenewable and hazardous resources to power our world. All the by products and exhaust of
these resources harm the environment which harm those who not only live in the direct environments,
but all over the Earth.
3. What can you do to help (or further, encourage, advocate, improve, change, educate, etc.) this community
with your chosen topic? Brainstorm ways to help.
4. Describe in paragraph form, what type of SLE you will complete. Explain the overall goal of your efforts. For
example, if my topic was to end homelessness in Charlotte, then I may want to plan a canned food drive. So
for mySELF, my goal is to connect with three local food pantry organizations, ask what items they are in need
of, then advertise to Charlotte at multiple locations to bring awareness to the need for the shelters, I will have
stations for people to donate canned goods. I will collect as much as I can, then bring it to the homeless
shelter to help the homeless. This doesnt solve homelessness exactly, but it will help local shelters because
they wont have to spend money from their small budget on food. This means that that they could help the
homeless with job training or housing because there is more money to spend on those things.
My SELF goal is to contact the companies that provide solar panels at an affordable price or plan to
households. Through this I will gain information and can possibly inform many others about the
benefits and why to invest in this addition to their home. My aim is to inform people so that they are
aware of the options to go green. While this won't fix the world or change everyone's house by
installing solar panels Im raising awareness for it.
5. An artifact is a synonym for evidence. What kind of artifacts will you specifically have so that you can prove
to the judges that you made an impact with your SLE hours? Think videos, lesson plans, email
correspondence, pictures, etc.).
6. Create a timeline, or a list of steps, that you will take to complete your project. Estimate how much time you
will need for each step. Your total should equal at least 15 hours.
