The Floods: How They Occurred and the Steps Toward Solutions

It has been nine years since the
floods first began plaguing the earth,
destroying all life as we know it. Empress
Ameria Delacroix, our great protector and
savior, was appointed President in 2080 by
the United Sectors in response to this crisis.
She has been an inspiration to the people, a
voice in the darkness that hears the peoples
cries for help. Empress Delacroix has
worked tirelessly to implement flood control
measures in order to save the lives of the
innocent civilians living in the United
Sectors. We forever owe her our gratitude
and appreciation for aiding us in the struggle
to push back the ocean from our lands.
The average global temperature and
water levels have a direct relationship that
have drastically increased since 2050. The
rise in global temperature can be attributed
to the increasing amount of carbon dioxide
in the ozone layer of the atmosphere. As
human activity has steadily increased over
the past two centuries, the quantity of carbon
dioxide produced jolted environmentalists
into action for preventative measures against
climate change. While a slight portion of
global warming is part of Earths natural
cycle, the tendencies of the early 21st
century caused the rise in carbon dioxide
levels. This increase in greenhouse gases
traps the heat from the sun inside the earth
and causes glaciers and ice caps to melt,
which are the major contributors to the rise
in sea levels. This occurrence sparked
concern among the international community
and world leaders met to discuss what could
be done to slow the effects of climate
change.
Prince Charles was a royal member
of the United Kingdom who attended a
climate change conference in 2016 and he
said to the audience, If the planet were a
patient, we would have treated her long ago.
You, ladies and gentlemen, have the power
to put her on life support, and you must
surely start the emergency procedures
without further procrastination.
Prince Charles emphasized the need
to immediately start emergency procedures
to protect the planet from further changes in
temperature. He was concerned that if global
warming continued to move as rapidly as it
had been, that there would be Earth left to
protect. He reached out to everyone in the
hopes he could rally them into immediate
action because the more time wasted
discussing solutions, the less time they had
to fix the issue.
However, Prince Charles did predict
the outcome of lack of effort to protect our
planet from global warming and the melting
Arctic sea ice. This apathetic behavior by
the public caused no actions to be taken to
preserve the planet, resulting in severe
flooding that destroyed modern society.
There were twenty-one sectors after the
original floods in 2075, but the melting of
ice caps in the north caused another surge of
floods that decimated three of the sectors.
Luckily, the melting process has
slowed considerably, but there remains a
steady increase in the water levels, posing a
threat to our glorious sectors. Empress
Delacroix has recognized this urgent need to
prevent future flooding, so she met with her
elite council to discuss preventative
measures.
In a recent press release, Empress
Delacroix addressed the concerned public
when she said, The council meeting I
arranged with my advisors was extremely
successful in discovering solutions to help
control the rise in water levels and avoid
future flooding. All of the steps we have
taken are so we can preserve this prosperous
society we have worked so hard to create.
A promising solution discussed in
the council meeting focused on building sea
defense walls that would assist in managing
the large quantity of water. The metal used
would contain no iron in order to hinder any
rusting to the material. The walls would also
be near the shore, roughly thirty feet high,
and surrounded by sandbags to try and deter
water.
In addition to the sea defense walls,
the United Sectors will start drilling into
Earths crust to have more space for water
storage, which has currently reached full
capacity on land.
While the public has already
witnessed the detrimental effects of climate
change, there are additional measures that
can be taken to diminish all causes of global
warming to avoid more floods. The United
Sectors has decided to eliminate cows from
the farming areas because the methane they
release adds to the greenhouse gases in the
Ozone layer that act as a warming blanket
around the planet. In addition to this
solution, Peacekeepers will be driving all
remaining cars to a wrecking yard where
they will be taken apart and used as scrap
metal for the sea defense walls. All people
will use public transportation to go to work,
but all other activities will be done by
walking or cycling.
These solutions that the gracious
Empress Delacroix has implemented will
put an end to the mass floods and rise in
water levels so we can live a safer and
happier life.
