Sustainable

Development Goal 7 +11

By Molly, Anya, Svantje and Helena

What are the sustainable development goals?

- A set of 17 Global goals with 169 targets,

that were created to make the world a
better place in 15 years (2030)
- They were chosen by the world leaders of
the United Nations (UN)
- They call to action to protect the planet and
making our lifestyles more sustainable
- The aim of these goals is to complete the
Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
What does Goal 7 mean?

-Clean and affordable energy

-The goal is that by 2030, everyone will have

access to clean, modern, efficient and
sustainable energy

-Also by 2030 sustainable energy sources will

be more efficient and fossil fuels will be
reduced.
Goal 7 Statistics
-1 in 5 people dont have access to electricity

-95% of people living without electricity live in Sub Saharan

Africa. Many of them live in poverty and cannot afford to pay
electrical bills.

-Worldwide over 3 billion people dont use electrical cookers or

heater. As an alternative they burn wood and charcoal.

- Energy is the main contribution to climate change, since around

60 per cent of total global greenhouse gas (CO2) emission

- Since 1990 the access to electricity has increased by 1.7 billion

How is Goal 7 affecting the world?

- If Goal 7 is achieved then it would help our

environment by helping reduce global warming
- Unsustainable energy is one of the largest factors
contributing to global warming
- Unsustainable energy also contributes to air
pollution
- Goal 7 could also help raise the economy
- People would be able to work longer, study longer
and communicate better
What does Goal 11 mean?

- By 2030, cities and human settlements will be

inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
- Meaning that cities will have access to basic
services, energy, housing, transportation and
more.
- Allow cities to continue thriving and growing,
while improving resource use and reducing
pollution and poverty.
Goal 11 Statistics
- Currently, of the worlds population live in
urban areas
- However, 880 million people still live in slums
- Cities occupy 3% of the worlds land
- Account for 60% - 80% of energy consumption
- Produce 75% of carbon emissions
- Rapid urbanization is exerting pressure on water
supplies, sewage, environment and public health
- Cities in every part of the world have high levels
of air pollution
How is Goal 11 affecting the world
If this goal were to be achieved:
- Access to safe, affordable housing and sustainable
transport
- Reduce the environmental impact of cities
- Air quality, energy consumption, waste management
- Increase the number of cities implementing plans
towards inclusion, resource efficiency, mitigation,
adaptation to climate change, resilience to disasters
What was our action?

- We completed an energy survey for 10 classrooms. We visited these

classrooms twice a day, for five days and recorded how many lights,
aircons and projectors were turned on.
- Then we used the data and calculated how much energy these 10
classrooms had wasted in those four days.
What did our What
resultsdoshow?
our results show?

-Lights left on wasted 14.6kWh

of electricity

-Air conditioners left on wasted

111.8kWh of electricity

-All together, in 5 days, the 10

classrooms wasted 126.4 kWh
of electricity

This is equal to:

LEAVING THE TV ON
FOR 365 HOURS
What can you do to help?

-Turn your lights off when you leave the room

-Dont turn your lights on during the day if natural light available and bright enough

-Set your AC to 25 degrees

-Turn off your classroom projector when not in use

-Turn off your fans when you leave the room

-Turn off your electricity in your house when you are going for holiday
