Year 6 Newsletter

June 2017
Welcome back! I cant believe we are entering our final term together! We have lots of exciting learning
opportunities and activities planned this half term and of course the Year 6 play to look forward to. If you
have any questions regarding the play, Robinwood or any other activities coming up, please get in contact with
me.

Literacy
This half-term we will be continuing our flash back stories and preparing
ourselves for high school in regards to the way they teach English there. We
will be looking at a variety of texts and responding to them commenting on the
authors choice of language, structure and content and explaining the impact of
these. We will also be doing a lot of cross-curricular writing focusing on our
Science and History topics.
Ways to help
Continue to develop your childs vocabulary, through reading with them regularly, and discuss key
vocabulary and punctuation & grammar terminology with your child so they retain their knowledge.
Maths
We will continue to maintain their arithmetic knowledge and speed while completing project work
based on a Theme Park. The children have to calculate expenditure, profit
and loss and there is a prize for the best overall project at the end of the
half term.
Ways to help Continue to practice instant recall of all multiplication tables.
The children will continue to complete their SATs booklets independently
and supporting your child with any misconceptions or corrections will aid
their learning. Use IXL at home to build on their understanding of key
questions.
Science Human Body Systems
This term we will begin by learning about human body systems prior to our
visit to the UCLAN Science Festival on 1st July. We will learn and explore how
our circulatory and respiratory systems work effectively and how important
our bones and muscles are in protecting our vital organs.
Ways to help Discuss what they already know about our body and how it
works. Encourage research and tasks relating to our body systems.
