Business Development Associate, Lifesciences – Los Angeles

A broad-based business development opportunity to join a team focused on


fostering transatlantic business relations between the US and its top
economic partner in Europe in the lifesciences sector.

Job summary

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the United Kingdom Government’s international


business development agency. UKTI is charged with transatlantic trade development
between the US and the UK and with assisting US companies looking to invest in the
UK. (See www.ukti.gov.uk).

The post advertised is for a Business Development Associate (BDA) and member of
the Los Angeles team, based in the British Consulate General Los Angeles, and
reporting to the Trade and Investment Officer (TIO) responsible for the Lifesciences
sector (including biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical device and healthcare sector) in
the SW USA region.

Objective
With a focus on the West Coast region of the USA, help to identify business
development opportunities for US companies looking to enter the European market
and for UK companies seeking a foothold in the US.

Specifically, the post holder will:


• Through primary and secondary research and marketing activity, proactively
identify potential investors in the lifesciences sector, who would be interested in
setting up or expanding their operations in the UK. Make initial contact and set
up meetings for TIO. Attend meetings and assist and lead in management of
client relationships.
• Build and maintain knowledge of developments and trends in the lifesciences
sector in both the US and the UK and manage a database and our Customer
Relationship Management system (CRM) of key contacts in those industries.
• On behalf of UK companies, research and produce reports on specific topics
relating to market developments, best routes to market and potential US
business partners.
• Market our services to US and UK companies.
• Assist with initiatives such as the development and execution of trade missions,
panel discussions, receptions and other events to promote the UK’s lifesciences
sector.
• Provide operations support by responding appropriately to information requests
and inquiries, monitoring email, and addressing other communications that
contribute to UKTI’s ability to proactively and reactively respond to the needs of
UK & US industry.
• Liase with both internal teams and external contacts at an executive level.

Required skills and experience


• Bachelor’s degree
• A minimum of 2 years business development experience, ideally in the
lifesciences sector
• A minimum of 2 years client management experience
• Knowledge of the US and UK business environments
• Understand the key issues facing companies operating in the lifesciences sector
• Proactive and organized and able to work to deadlines
• Courteous and professional and experience of dealing with senior level
representatives of various organizations
• Ability to prioritize, effectively manage and execute multiple tasks
• Strong communication (oral and written) skills
• Attention to detail and good follow up discipline
• Excellent research ability, reading comprehension and topical summary skills

Appointment is subject to successful completion of a written test, reference checks

United States.
