I am here today to tell you about a never ending conflict throughout this country.
Although there are many conflicts that must be solved, unity is one that has been going on for
longer than I can say, therefore must be a priority of this nation. I believe that the main reason
why americans today dont live as one human race is because they still believe in what their
ancestors believed.

... though everyone knows that most men consider themselves better than someone,
(Quindlen Lines 3-4). This quote demonstrates how people think they are better than most
others and thats obviously not going to cooperate with a country that is trying to live as one
united nation. Its not only the fact that some think theyre better than others, but its also the
fact that those who know people that think theyre better than most others arent doing anything
to try to express to those who think highly of themselves that it is not okay to think that and
expect our country to grow together. Thinking highly of yourself and expecting the country to
grow as a whole cant happen because if others that help the country and dont care about where
they rank among their peers, are the ones who push for the everlasting cause that is unity.
There are many different types of reasons why the country cant live as one human race such as
race, religion, culture, etc.

Tolerance is the word used most often when this kind of coexistence succeeds, but
tolerance is a vanilla-pudding word, standing for little more than the allowance of letting others
live unremarked and unmolested. (Quindlen Lines 88-91). In this quote from Quindlen it
shows that when people say the word tolerance, it doesnt even compare to what some people
are going through. Those who are part of this problem cant express how much pain and distress
they go through while others who arent part of it just sit there and live their life without trying
to help the cause. This quote also shows how most live their life being abused by the separation
of the nation. In a country that is trying to get those from other races, religions, etc. to coexist
peacefully you cant have people being abused about something that they possibly have no
control over. Yes, some might say that people can control what religion they believe in, but how
do we know as strangers to that persons family that they do have control over it.
...we cannot dedicatewe cannot consecratewe cannot hallowthis ground, (Lincoln
Lines 10-11). To me, this shows that even when Lincoln was president he had to tell the living to
make sure we avenge those who lost their lives trying to give us liberty. From this, I can tell that
we werent a very united nation back then because the fact that Lincoln had to address that we
need to fight for those who died tells me that we wouldnt have done anything if Lincoln
wouldnt have done anything. Since we wouldnt have done anything that shows me how we
arent a united nation and that to solve it we need to push with the same fight that MLK and
Abraham Lincoln did for what they believed in.

In conclusion, I feel that those are some vital quotes that support my claim that the
problem of unity in this country needs to be a priority in order to make it right and have
everyone with different cultures, ethnicities, races, religions, etc. live together in a peaceful
coexistence.
