Section AUTOMATIC CHEMICAL DOSING SYSTEM

Controller Hardware ( Non Redundent system)


The standard platform is the Siemens family of ET200S distributed PLCs, I/O cards and
programming software. IM 151-8 PN/DP CPU interface module is a component of the ET 200S
distributed I/O system with degree of protection IP20.

It enables you to decentralize control tasks. Therefore, an ET 200S with IM-151-8 can exercise full and, if
necessary, independent control over a process-related functional unit.

BriefProcess Write up for Automatic Dosing of Chemicals through PLC based Dosing
system

The system shall comprise of centralized PLC system with I/O modules, power supply at
each rack (such as CPU rack, remote I/O drops) and communication link between the
CPUs & remote I/O drops if any.( Non redundant system)

Control philosophy: The system shall be designed to operate in two modes viz Remote
manual and Auto mode as explained below and shall cater to controlling of three different
sections of the plant.

1. Auto Mode: This mode will be initiated through HMI screens. Auto mode of shall be
separately selectable for a group of operations. Once the start button is pressed relevant
operations shall be completed as per the given sequence / timings / interlocks. In case of a
problem, the changeover to Remote Manual mode shall be bump less without affecting the
process.

2. Remote /Manual Mode: It shall be possible to execute every operation in Remote


Manual mode. This mode shall be operated from mimic screens by pressing the respective
control buttons of drives and valves as configured on the screen.

3. Local Mode: It shall be possible to manually operate all the Pumps individually ..

Degumming Section ;- Chemical tanks will have Level transmitters to continuously


monitor the level in the tanks for continuous dosing of chemicals as per the % of Oil
flow . The selection has to be made in the HMI scada for the dosing percentage
proportional to flow rate.

Bleaching Section :- In Bleaching section chemical dosing shall be automatically


adjusted by PLC based on the % of dosing selected by operator . % dosing selection has
to be made by the operator as per the process requirement ,once the same is selected
the dosing will be automatically adjusted by the PLC.

The Actuator valves will automatically adjust the dosing cycle based on the % of dosing
selected for bleaching process.The Level of Phosphoric acid will be continuously
monitored by the PLC to avoid any interruption and will provide low level alarm to refill
the chemicals in the dosing tanks.

Esterification Section : feed oil flowrate shall be monitored with Volumetric Flowmeter
continuously and glycerene dosing will be controlled according to Oil flow rate . dosing
rate can be controlled form the SCADA SCREEN .
