1.0 INTRODUCTION
JTP Consulting Engineers Pvt Limited is asked to do the (CIVIL) Design and
Detailed Engineering of Coal handling Plant and silo loading arrangement at Ananda Siding V & VI.
The areas to be covered are RCC Silo (2 Nos), 15000 T Semi ground bunker, Gantry/ Gallery
for overhead and ground conveyor and undergroung conveyors, Transfer and drive houses,
service buildings, Truck receipt hoppers and miscellaneous works.

This report deals with the detailed load calculations and design of RCC Silos.

2.0 DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

There are two numbers of RCC Silo of 4800 te(Each) capacity with 18.0m as inner diameter
The Silo is cylindrical and is surrounded by RCC wall with a heavy slab at bottom.
The Silo is proposed to be supported on RCC columns and beams. The Steel structure above the
silo is proposed to be supported on top slab of the silo which in turn being supported by Plate
Girders. The whole structure is proposed to be supported on a RCC Raft being supported on
bored Cast in situ piles.
3.0 METHODOLOGY
The analysis and design of steel portion above the silo has been done using analysis Software
STAAD PRO. The design is in accordance with the Working Stress design. The Loads are taken
from relevant IS Codes. The design has been checked manually also.

The Silo Top slab(RCC) has been designed manually using Limit State Method.
The Plate girders below the Top slab are analysed and designed in the STAAD PRO. The design has
been checked manually also for confirmation to IS800-1984.

The design of silo wall has been done manually and is in accordance
with the Working stress design. The wall has been checked for axial compression and Hoop tension.
The wall has been checked as per relevant American and Indian Codes.

The Structure below the Silo portion has been proposed as a RCC framed structure which is
analysed and designed using STAAD PRO.

The Silo raft has been modelled and analysed with Pile stiffness as spring supports. The design
has been done manually with the reports from STAAD.

The Pile has been modelled analysed with Soil springs calculated according to the N value
from the Soil report.
