Assignment 1

T3- Artistic Styles Used in Computer Games


Photorealism: Photorealism is a growing technology in video games because video game
companies are trying to make their games more realistic so it feels like you are actually
controlling a real person in game or watching a movie. People really like this style of gameplay
and most games are now doing the same style. The characters are so life like that when they
are speaking about, for example, sad times when the character is generally sad you can see the
emotion in their eyes and that is just amazing graphics quality. Lots of games do this nowadays
but one of the main games which has the best quality graphics around, not just the characters
faces, but the world itself. A game like 'The Last of Us' is completely in 4k which is the highest
graphic quality setting and it looks great and people tend to choose game graphics over story
nowadays. Games like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry 4, Bloodborne, Watch Dogs and many other
games. The only problem with using this method is because the graphics keeps getting more
realistic the games keep getting bigger and bigger thus making it harder for consoles be able to
play them on their system.

Cell-shading: Cell-shading is a dying art in the video game industry because as the subject I
previously talked about is taking over the video game industry so not many companies use this
style and make this game anymore. Cell-shading is when the game is made my colouring in the
character on a sheet step by step and thus making the games take a while to be made thus
giving the game a unique feeling for it and plus gives the game creators great pride when they
make it because of the length it took to make them. They are still done in high quality as they
hand-draw them then they animate them with their software and make them look very good
but in a cartoon style of format. As I previously mentioned not many companies use that style
of format anymore but the main company who still use that company is 'Level 5' who make
games like 'Ni No Kuni', 'Professor Layton' and other games like that, they are mainly aimed at
children but a lot of adults like them as well and they are very well received and have a very
strong and loyal fan base because of the cell-shading feature they use in their game.
Abstraction: Abstraction in games is basically the polar opposite to photorealism, the style of
abstraction doesn't aim to be anything like real life and tries to be completely different and
often has their own features that are very unrealistic incorrelation to real life things since as I
mentioned they don't try and look similar when make their video game to real life. They are
usually made up of really strange items inseatd of acual things, for example, they can be a lines,
or squares or just something someone has made up just for the game. They have tons of games
for this style but they tend to be for the PC and for mobile devices but they are a few games for
this on the consoles but mostly PC and mobile devices. Games like Tetris, Maze Runner and
others are prime candidates to show the style of games what abstraction is; Tetris is the most
famous one and all it is blocks falling down and you have to get them on top of each other for
points and the other games are similar but Maze Runner is where you are a line moving around
and trying to cut off other lines to win the game.

Exaggeration Anime and Manga: The exaggeration video game art style is very popular within
games and is commonly used nowadays throughout various different games. When a company
tends to use this style, they tend to make it look like a person but make it look cartoony as well
to give the effect that isn't supposed to be very serious by also can still be serious but thats just
the style they have. Exaggeration game style tends to be used at the start of games and also still
nowadays and is commonly used by the company Nintendo who tends to aim their games at
little kids but companies also use this style also aim it at adults as well. Anime is something that
some games use when it is developed by a Japanese company normally and it's normally a
person who is made out of proportion to a normal human and they have strange characteristics
such as when they smile their eyes get replaced with stars and they glow, or their smile grows
really wide and covers their entire face and things along of those lines, things that are not
humanly possible. A lot of Japanese games use this style, games such as Final Fantasy,
Pokemon, The Legend of Zelda and many more.

T3 Computer Game Graphics


Pixel Art: Pixel art is a dying art in the game graphics nowadays because of how great the
systems are nowadays but they are still games that are great classics. They used pixel art for
video games back in the day but they don't anymore apart from the few odd companies that
like the style but people don't like the style anymore because care for graphics not story
anymore. The pixel art is a very simple design where the characters and the world are just little
blocks to make everything up. They are only 2d normally and that means you can only see one
side of the world and you can spin the camera around and see around you in the video game
like you can nowadays but in the olden days people thought this was amazing. Lots of
companies used to you this style when making games, and the games they made were
legendary and have went down in history as some of the best games in history, games like Final
Fantasy 7, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Mario, Donkey Kong are among the most
popular that have ever been created.

Concept Art: Concept art is the design used to develop the look and feel of a certain style of
video game. The style of concept style can be anything from animated films to, but in my case,
video games. Visual development artists will use the story and characters that they have
created to build a basic idea that they have made beforehand that is used as a guideline for an
entire video game. To begin with and the artist will make a rough sketch of the world and the
characters and items throughout the game, and after given the okay by the project manager,
they will then make them on 3D to turn them into the video game style that is needed for them
to be put into the video game. A lot of companies use this style of art to make their video game
because thats the style of art they make their games in and that's what their fans would of
expected. Games like Ni No Kuni use this style sometimes as well, Halo, Skyrim and many other
video games.
Characters: Characters are key when making a video game because if you don't have any
characters then you can't play the game. Characters need to go through intense making. Visual
development artists will use the story and characters that they have created to build a basic
idea that they have made beforehand that is used as a guideline for an entire video game. To
begin with and the artist will make a rough sketch of the world and the characters and items
throughout the game, and after given the okay by the project manager, they will then make
them on 3D to turn them into the video game style that is needed for them to be put into the
video game. They need to make sure about everything the character does, the walking
animation, how he moves his/her body around and also how he or she talks and his/her face
animation when they are talking. Games like Final Fantasy 7, The Legend of Zelda: Link's
Awakening, Mario, Donkey Kong are among the most popular that have ever been created
according to characters because of their story and their development in the game and thus
makes the audience fall in love with them.

Weapons: Weapons are key when making a video game because if you don't have any weapons
then you can't play the game if that game has weapons of course. Weapons need to go through
intense making, especially if you're making them yourself and not copying army guns. Visual
development artists will use the story and weapons that they have created to build a basic idea
that they have made beforehand that is used as a guideline for an entire video game. To begin
with and the artist will make a rough sketch of the world and the weapons and items
throughout the game, and after given the okay by the project manager, they will then make
them on 3D to turn them into the video game style that is needed for them to be put into the
video game. They need to make sure about everything the weapon does, the shooting
animation, how the weapon swings around and moves around moves. Games like Final Fantasy
7, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Mario, Donkey Kong are among the most popular
that have ever been created according to weapons because of their memorability in the game
and thus makes the audience fall in love with them.
Vehicle: Vehicles are key when making a video game because if you don't have any vehicles
then you can't play the game if that game has vehicles of course. Vehicles need to go through
intense making, especially if you're making them yourself and not copying actual cars and
planes and things like that. Visual development artists will use the story and vehicles that they
have created to build a basic idea that they have made beforehand that is used as a guideline
for an entire video game. To begin with and the artist will make a rough sketch of the world and
the vehicles and items throughout the game, and after given the okay by the project manager,
they will then make them on 3D to turn them into the video game style that is needed for them
to be put into the video game. They need to make sure about everything the vehicle does, the
driving animation, how the car moves around moves and how it crashes and how it stops.
Games like The Last of Us, Battlefield, GTA and other games like that as they make their own
cars and they also make you remember them.

Environment: The world changes on every single game ever made, depending on the game, the
size of the world varies. There can be a set world for you to be able to visit, or you can play an
open world game which is where you can go anywhere you want. Set world maps tend to be
games like Call of Duty or Battlefield where there is places you can go but there isnt much for
you to be able to do, whereas an open world game would be games like Skyrim or The Witcher
where you can walk around and do whatever it is you feel like. These games tend to have a map
with them because the games are so large and there is so many places you can visit. Terrain is
what the world is, for example, is the world a wasteland or a desert biome or something along
those lines. Most open world games have various terrains like Skyrim once again or Minecraft
as they have hate set parts of the world, so they have a snowy terrain and then a forest terrain
and things along those lines. Set world games also have this, but games like Call of Duty has a
set terrain because they have different maps, and this means that they have several places to
play the game, but you cant leave that place. They have lots of terrains but the main ones tend
to be forest, grassy plain, snow, city, and space. All games have terrains, it doesnt matter if its
a city, its still a terrain. Architecture is what the world built around you is, for example, the
buildings and things along those lines. You have to take architecture in to account when making
your game because you need to make sure it matches your storyline, for example, a post-
apocalyptic world.

Texture Art: The world changes on every single game ever made, depending on the game, the
size of the world varies. There can be a set world for you to be able to visit, or you can play an
open world game which is where you can go anywhere you want. Set world maps tend to be
games like Call of Duty or Battlefield where there is places you can go but there isnt much for
you to be able to do, whereas an open world game would be games like Skyrim or The Witcher
where you can walk around and do whatever it is you feel like, and in these games you see a lot
of textures and you need to make sure they match their surroundings and they are not out of
place, a well-known glitch in games is called a texture glitch where the textures on a wall or a
mountain is missing and you can see straight through the mountain. This glitch is becoming
more uncommon but still is somewhat common.
T3 Graphics Research
Pixels
Everything is made up of pixels on your computer. For images for main source for that is a
picture element. The element is even smaller than the pixels and can be changed. Pixels are
small tiny dots depending on what kind of image it is - which make up everything on your
computer. They cannot be seen by the human eye unless you zoom in. As you can see to the
side. As you can see, once zoomed in it begins to blur because,
the resolution isnt the best thus meaning you can start to see
the pixels.
The image resolution all depends on what quality the picture
was taken. For example, if a picture was taken on a really good
camera the image resolution would be better than an image
taken on a poor camera. Resolution is the same as image
quality, this means the higher the image quality the better the
image will look. The higher the resolution the more pixels because it is a higher image quality
thus meaning it needs more pixels. The only bad thing about having a high resolution is the file
sizes. The file sizes are huge which can take a while to export, whether you are exporting an
image to your own website or to Facebook, or any other social media websites, its going to
take a long time to export it, but if its a small image and doesnt have very good image
resolution it wont have a very big file size and wont that long to export it. Having a high
resolution image is very appealing to the eye and it catches your attention, for example, if you
have a poster which you made and have a high quality image, people are more likely to look at
your poster to see what its about, whereas if you have a poster with a low quality image
people arent going to look at it and they will walk past.
Pixel intensity is how bright an image is. If you have taken a picture on your phone or with a
camera, however light the day was is however light the pixel intensity will be on the image. Or if
an image is just looking at one thing, for example, the sea, the background will be faded and
the sea will be brighter so it will focus on just that thing, this image will have high intensity. The
pixel intensity is controlled by pixel beams which if set to zero the entire image will be black
whereas if they are turned all the way up the image will be very bright.
Raster Image
There are multiple different styles of a raster images, but the main ones are Lossy and
Lossless. A Lossy file is a process in an editing software, for example, Photoshop. Where you
can add an effect called compression, you can add this an image once you do this it will become
blurred and it will have a Lossy effect thus the reason its called Lossy. If the image doesnt
allow you do add this effect once you load the raster image back up, it will not be compressed
anymore.
Lossless is completely different to Lossy as when you add this effect in Photoshop or any other
photo editing software. Once you compress the image, the image then is broken down in to
little tiny pieces and what this allows is easier storage to you save file it does this so that when
you reopen the image it allows you to recreate the entire image with no data loss whatsoever.
There are a lot of file extensions for raster images. The main ones being GIF, TIFF, JPG and PSD.
Lets start with GIF. The GIF file format is mostly a bitmap based image which mainly focuses on
Lossless compression images. The GIF file normally focuses on animation instead of images or
videos. They can be used in websites, multimedia products and movies and that sort of thing.
They normally use it for animation because it is easier for people to make them and save them
in this format, plus putting them in a GIF format means when they download it, it doesnt take
long because it doesnt have a lot of file space compared to a and movie file format. Now lets
start on TIFF. A TIFF file format is what people in the art industry use because it is the most neat
and clean file format. It also is an image manipulation saving file, thus making it easy for people
who go on Photoshop and use image manipulation. TIFF is commonly used on Photoshop for
the reasons I said before. Another one is JPEG. The most common of all the file formats. This
file format is generally used by photographers and then they put an image onto to their
computer and the file format they save it in is JPEG. This also uses the Lossy compression, it
uses this because it makes the file smaller and doesnt take too long to save or download.
These images can be imported to where ever you like thus making it easier to people to share
their work, so thats why people use JPEGs. Now the final file format is PSD. A PSD is a
Photoshop design and that means that it can only be opened in Photoshop. People save an
image in PSD typically because they are doing work on an image or they have completed it but
save it back to a PSD in case they want to
change it in the future. They also created
this to make sure all your images and layers
are extra safe in Photoshop.
Vector Images
A vector image has multiple different file extensions, but the main file extension has to be EPS.
EPS (Encapsulated PortScript) is a file extension which is commonly used for images which you
create or take a picture of. They are normally used instead of JPEGs because its easier to save
plus they have a higher resolution. They store their
images in a vector image format which allows them to see
the image as well the text format. These can only be
opened in specific editing software such as: Adobe
Photoshop, GIMP, Adobe Illustrator, Paint and any other
editing software you can think of. It only opens in this
because the image resolution doesnt pixelate thus
meaning it can open in any editing software, because it saves
it in a Lossy bitmap making it a better option to JPEG.
Bit Depth - Sampling
Bit depth sampling is a very common process. Bit depth sampling is the deconstruction of a
singular pixel. What this does is, you can then see all the colours in that pixel whether that be
blue, red and green. Every single image is filled with millions of pixels, and each of pixels have
colours and every pixel has 1-23 bit colour range. Typically the higher the bit colour range the
better the image quality will be. Each and every single bit colour has two times the amount of
colours to make the image quality even better.

Bits per Pixel (BPP)


As Im sure you are aware, within every single pixel on an image or on your computer monitor,
they are made up of colours. These are called bits, the higher the bit depth the more colours
there will be in an image. As I mentioned in the last paragraph bits per pixel are two times more
than what the old colour is. If an image has 14 bits per pixel, which is low meaning the
resolution is a lot lower, but it would be called a 14 bit image. But this is too high if you were
making a website or just a document giving
people information, because if its a 14 bits per pixel
image, the image is going to be high quality and it
would take a lot longer to download, or it will take the
page a lot longer to open. Whereas if it was lower the
page wouldnt take long to load and the image
wouldnt take long to download. I would
recommend either 8-bit or 6-bit colour range as it
would still make the image look okay, but it wont take
a long time for people to access.
Monochrome
Monochrome is used very rarely in graphics due to the fact that the colour scheme doesn't look
the best and that means the image doesn't look very professional, this means I wouldn't use
this in a website or if I was making a poster. Monochrome gives images a shade or a colour, but
only one colour. So an image can be made up of different shades of white, or different shades
of green, and so on and so forth.
256
256 is very common and is often used in editing software so you can change the colour. They
can be only used in 6 bit images and 8 bit images and what it is, is a colour palette which
contains 256 colours, which is the normally colour and then
multiple shades, for example, normal red and then a lot of
different shades of red. This is the most common
palette in editing software's and any other software you can
think of. There is a bigger palette than this which
contains a lot more colours, but is not used for common
images, it is only used for 16 bit images which is rarely
used.
Highcolour
Highcolour is very similar to 256, because it is a colour palette too, but it is a lot bigger than 256
colours. It has up to 65,536 colours, which is incredibly big. This tends to be used during 16 bit
images whereas the 256 uses 6 to 8 bit images. People who are making games on the DS or the
PS vita use it for low graphic games. It is also used for very high graphic
images, people who tend to use it are people who are in the art
business or people who are into graphic design, for example, making
images or logos for a company. Especially images so they can make
them look a lot better for their website.
True Colour
True colour is the largest colour palette available. Its 10 times bigger than highcolour and 50
times bigger than 256. It has 16,777,216 different colours. This kind of palette is used when
someone takes an image with a very high quality camera, e.g. a 4k
camera. This makes images looks extremely professional. This
tends to be used for 24 bit images because the colour palette is so
advanced, it needs an advanced image to be used. Although this
image is very professional and it looks really good, it will not be
good to use these images in a product, for example, if you are
making a website, if these super high quality images are used
though out the entirety of the website, the people visiting your
website will start to lag and then will eventually crash, which is not ideal. But if you are making
a poster or a leaflet, it will take a while to print and export the leaflet as they are huge files, but
it will look very good and is worth the wait. But although it looks good, there is far too many
colours in the images making it not ideal to use for most things you would make normally,
unless it's an art poster or an art website.
Colour Space - Greyscale
A greyscale image is quite self-explanatory, what it is, is an image which is just one colour, and
that is grey. It's basically black and white. This is normally used to create effect to make the
person viewing this image feel some sort of emotion. This is commonly used because it creates
effect, but it also looks professional. In RGB its only one colour space whereas, for example,
blue has multiple spaces because it has the colour blue and then a lot of different shades and
same for every colour, and this is because every colour has different shade apart from grey.

RGB
RGB is exactly the same as a colour palette, but it is all the colours you can use in an image, but
you can't see it like a colour palette. Just like the 256 colour palette, it has 256 colours in it, and
it is stores every single colour you can use and all the shades. It is not very good to use though
as there are many different colours which I would rather us whether I was making a website or
a poster, so I can choose many different colours for a logo or a
banner or an image. Because the RGB is only the colours red, green
and blue and what the colours are mixed together in the colour
wheel. Plus if use all the 256 colours in a particular product, like a
logo or any other kind of image, the file size will be very big, thus
meaning it will take a while to load up when you try to edit it, or
when you try to download it off the internet.

Image Capture - Scanner


Scanner aren't normally used anymore because they aren't needed that much any more
because of all the technology we have now. They turn stuff which you have made on paper,
such as an image or a logo or some text and then you scan them to make another copy, or
some scanners have a function so that when you scan whatever you want it saves it on your
computer so that then you have it for your use, this is commonly
used in school work if you are talking about what you did for a
storyboard you then have photo evidence on your computer. For my
design of a website, I doubt very much that I will use something that
has been scanned on my website as they aren't very good quality and
will not look very professional considering I am making a sports
website. Unless a scanned image looks really good or I am thinking
about drawing a design about a new football boot, and then scan it
and then add it to the website to say coming soon, that is the only
way it will work.

Digital Camera
A digital camera is very commonly used. A digital camera is a something which takes photos
and records videos. These can be very expensive depending on how good the camera is, you
can buy one for 40 or you can buy one which costs 1500. They both are extremely different,
one is for home pictures and the other one is for professional photography. You can then
upload it to your computer very easily so that you can
then use it for anything you want because it saves it as a
JPEG. They save on a SD card which is very cheap and
you can buy a better one which can store more videos or
images. They have multiple add-ons which you can add,
such as zoom, slow motion effect and straps. These
make your photo taking experience a lot better. I will
not be using a digital camera in my website as I don't
own a professional camera needed for a sports website,
thus meaning I will have to have look on the internet for my images, but thats not a problem as
there are many high quality images, but I will have to be careful about copyright.

Resolution
I have talked about resolution previously, but resolution is a technical tem that photographers
and artists and graphic designers use, and what it means is the detail a video or a image is. So if
the number is higher the better the quality tends to be. The image or video quality has a lot to
do with the camera, if it is a cheap camera the image quality and video quality will have a lower
resolution whereas an expensive camera has a better image and video resolution. You can
change the image quality via using an editing software, but it very hard to do as you will need a
lot of spare time and plus it is very complicated to do. The best editing software is Adobe
Photoshop because it is easier to use and the best to do the task, but it very expensive. I can
adjust a poor image for my website and then adjust the resolution of image so it looks a lot
more professional and then I can add it to my website.

Storage
Storage is a standard thing in everything to do with technology. It is where everything is kept to
make sure it is safe. You can get bigger storage by buying more parts for your computer or a SD
card for a camera, or whatever it is you are using. You can also buy separate parts to make sure
you have more storage, for example, you can buy a removable drive (memory stick) for a
computer so that you can store files on it so it's not stored on you
pc or you can store it on both, this is normally used to move your
files across to a different pc so people have a copy of that file. Files
tend to vary in size because if a image or a text file is a lot bigger
than something else your storage can clog up quite quickly so thats
why they buy a memory stick so they have more room to store
their files.
Asset management, is what the computer operator can controls
files, this is commonly used in schools or companies. They also can be manual, but they are
normally used in every single computer and they are not manual, they name files so you know
what they are, for example, if you make a Photoshop document, you then save it as a
Photoshop document, the computer operator will tell the computer that is a Photoshop file, so
you will be able to name it what you like, for example, logo and then they call it 'Logo.psd' so
you know its a Photoshop file.
For my entire two years I will be using two different type of storage devices, the computer itself
and a removable device (memory stick). This will be used as a backup in case something gets
deleted by mistake, it will also be used by the teacher so that you can store your files on it to
make sure that they have everything. I can also save it so that in case I need to finish work I can
take it home and finish it.
File sizes can be very annoying. If I make something in Photoshop to add it to my website, and I
use very big images and then shrink them down, the file size will be huge and then it will take a
while to save and then a while to add it to the website. This then will take a while to open the
website. Also I need to make sure the text documents that will take aren't to big with images
that are too big otherwise it will take a while to download to the website. If this happens it will
then cause the person who is viewing my website to leave and then find a different one.
Optimising - Target Destination
Target destination is quite self-explanatory, it is where I want to use images or videos in my
website which can be viewed, via your computer, mobile phone and any other portable device.
But I don't need to worry about a mobile phone or any other portable device, I will just be
basing it off the computer monitor because that what people will tend to use to access my
website. This will be most common because I will be making my logo to fit a computer screen
and my banner for my sports shop. On a portable device it will look a lot different. I will need to
make sure the file size of the images low otherwise it will take a while to access my website on
a computer and even longer on a portable device.
Bit Depth
I must be careful about the bit depth in each image because if there are too many bits in an
image the website will take a while to load and that will mean people will find a different
website to access so they don't have to wait as long. As I have mentioned before I chose to
choose a 6-8 bit colour range so the file sizes aren't too big because once again, it only has 256
colours which I have previously talked about this is plenty amount of colour so that it looks
good and it doesn't make the file size huge.
Resolution
The image resolution all depends on what quality the picture was taken. For example, if a
picture was taken on a really good camera the image resolution would be better than an image
taken on a poor camera. Resolution is the same as image quality, this means the higher the
image quality the better the image will look. The higher the resolution the more pixels because
it is a higher image quality thus meaning it needs more pixels. The only bad thing about having
a high resolution is the file sizes. The file sizes are huge which can take a while to export,
whether you are exporting an image to your own website or to Facebook, or any other social
media websites, its going to take a long time to export it, but if its a small image and doesnt
have very good image resolution it wont have a very big file size and wont that long to export

and that means my website will take longer to load, thus meaning I need to be careful.
Dimensions
Videos and images have dimensions, it is measured in height and width. It tends to be
measured in pixels so a image would vary considering on how big it was, it would look like
something like this 1180 x 720 and this is a image size and is
the same with a video, 1280 x 720 is 720p which is HD in
resolution, but it is the same thing. All editing software's
allow you choose your image size when you start a new file or
graphic. I need to then be careful, I will measure how big the
area needed is and then make it in Adobe Photoshop at the
right dimensions and then add it to my website. I will do this
with my logo and my banner. I will look at the website to see
my canvas and then measure it and then make my banner to
that size and then I will do the same with my logo.

Intended Image Output


As I have previously said, I have told you the exact image output I intend using. You can only
view my website via the internet which can be viewed on either your computer or a portable
device. I have told you what I need to create and where they will end up going on my website. I
have also told you that I have made sure that everything will fit on screen as I will measure the
dimensions via pixels to make sure it fits. Once I come to make my sports website it will be a
whole lot easier for me because I have measured everything in advance, so everything will fit
perfectly.

T4 Background Graphics
Walls, Forests & Clouds: All games have walls, forests and clouds and this means the world
must be huge and having this is key because it helps you feel like youre part of the game and

it doesnt matter if its a city, its still a terrain. Architecture is what the world built around you
is, for example, the buildings and things along those lines. You have to take architecture in to
account when making your game because you need to make sure it matches your storyline, for
example, a post-apocalyptic world. The world changes on every single game ever made,
depending on the game, the size of the world varies. There can be a set world for you to be able
to visit, or you can play an open world game which is where you can go anywhere you want. Set
world maps tend to be games like Call of Duty or Battlefield where there is places you can go
but there isnt much for you to be able to do, whereas an open world game would be games
like Skyrim or The Witcher where you can walk around and do whatever it is you feel like. These
games tend to have a map with them because the games are so large and there is so many
places you can visit. Terrain is what the world is, for example, is the world a wasteland or a
desert biome or something along those lines.

In-game Interface: The in-game interface is key when making a game because if you don't have
an in-game interface you won't be able to play the game because you need to be able to save
your game and also you need to be able to organise your items around which you have to
collect or have collected throughout the game. Every single game has a in-game interface
whether it's simple or not it still has one; you also need a in-game interface whilst playing the
game which will gave you tips throughout the game because you will need it otherwise you
won't know how to play the video game. Games like Final Fantasy 7, The Legend of Zelda: Link's
Awakening, Mario, Donkey Kong, Games like The Last of Us, Battlefield, GTA and other games
like that as their interface are very well known because of their invention of the good interface
settings because of their memorability and ease to navigate and good tips to use whilst playing
the video game.
Head Up Display: When making a game, the head up displays otherwise known HUD) or Status
Bar is the method by which information is visually shown to the player as part of a game's user
interface. This is shown in all games no matter what game it is, whether it be an adventure
game, a strategy game or a sandbox game, they all have HUD, and this is because they need to
show you what is going on the screen without bombarding you with information before hand
and you having to figure it out for yourself. A HUD could display anything, if youre playing an
adventure game, it will show you your health, and abilities that you have at your disposal. If
youre playing a first person shooter, it will show you your health and you weapon and how
much ammo you have left and the other games you can imagine what it shows you.

Game packaging/Box Cover: The game packaging needs to be crucial because if the packaging
for a game people won't want to buy it, it needs to catch their attention when people walk
past. Game packaging/Box cover needs to go through intense making. Visual development
artists will use the story and characters and weapons that they have created to build a basic
idea that they have made beforehand that is used as a guideline for an entire game
packaging/box cover. To begin with and the artist will make a rough sketch of the world and the
character and weapons and items throughout the game, and after given the okay by the project
manager, they will then make them on 3D to turn them into the video game packaging/box
cover that is needed for them to be put on it. Depending on what game it is they need to make
sure they use the best characters needed for it, for example, a sports game they need to make
sure they use the best footballers that are around to catch your attention. I plan to have the
main character on a plain background or maybe the environment of the game to draw you in
and to make you to get a feel of the world that you will be playing in. I have researched game
cover and the font is needed as it is key because if they have a bad font that doesnt match the
game and their target audience then it wont look very professional and people wont be able
to take it seriously and this will make the game look bad. They also tend to keep it simple by
having a background and their name on it and the characters or their logo on the box cover to
keep it simple as thats what people like.
