Personal Reflection #2
diverse classrooms in Canada and around the world today, a professional educator needs to be
accepting of all differences and diversities within a classroom. I firmly believe that when it
comes to a students sexual orientation, cultural practices, religious practices, beliefs, or even
diversity. I believe that teachers need to be adaptive in creating and implementing lesson plans,
and must be able to tailor lessons to fit each students individual needs. Professional educators
must care about their students, and put in extra time and effort into finding solutions to aid each
students success. For example, my current teacher associate is an educator at a catholic school,
traditionally, not a school that would be accepting of other faiths and beliefs, but my teacher
associate has tailored her religion class to be a growing in faith class. This class emphasizes
moral lessons over religious stories, and she makes a point in most classes to address the variety
I strongly believe with current classrooms in Canadian society, teachers must be adaptive,
and accepting, but along with these two important features, a professional educator should
consistently be reflective of his or her own work, and of others. I believe that teaching is a
continuing learning process, and professional educators must be willing to learn as much as they
teach, from students, colleagues, and peers. Along with learning consistently, teachers must be
reflective upon their daily practices, and open to trying new things that may or may not be

successful. It is very important to be willing to try new things, and have an open mind upon
successes and failures along the journey. Professional educators must be reflective upon these
I believe that at the end of the day the most important thing a professional educator must
be, is a genuinely caring second parent to their students. Professional educators should
consistently be adaptive, accepting and reflective, because they want to be for themselves, and
for their students. I believe that to be a good professional educator, one must be open to change
and understand that a students mental well-being always comes first in comparison to academic
success. If a professional educator understands this, then being adaptive, accepting and reflective
should come naturally. Professional educators should always put their students needs first and
understand that it is their responsibility to put their full effort into student success, and growth.
