This basic diagram will be used in all tense descriptions.

1-2 The Progressive Tenses


Form: be + -in g ( present participle)
Meaning: The progressive ten ses* give the idea that an action is in progress during a particular time. T he tenses say
that an action begins before, is in progress during, and continues after another time or action.

Form: have + past participle

another time o r event. T he tenses are used to express the duration of the first event.
