Learnings on Company Practices

The culture that a company has, is primarily influenced by the top management. The latters

nationality, religion and passion could create a big effect in establishing it. There are instances that the

culture itself becomes the identification of an entity and sometimes affects how they choose their

employees. Hence, it plays a major role in a business.

It can be observed through CherryMobile Communications Inc. (CMCI)s organizational structure

that all high positions are composed of Chinese nationals therefore, it can be implied that feng shui

is carved in their culture. I expected that there would be stuffs in their buildings that are related to

feng shui such as Buddha statues, cats that raise their paws back and forth and other things that can be

usually seen in a business owned by a Chinese. The surprising part was when I found out that the

place where their buildings were established, was in accordance to feng shuis guidance. It was new to

me personally since I am not really into those kind of rituals.

The firm also have some sweet traditions that they practice. For instance, all employees whose

birthdays are on the current month, are posted in their bulletin board with their respective pictures. It

might be awkward for those employees who were posted, but I think it is a way for the company to let

them know their importance. In addition, they also provide cakes to those employees that celebrate

their birthday. It is also a nice step to build a strong relationship between the management and its

employees.

It is common for companies to have parties during their annual celebration of Christmas but what I

have observed with CMCI was that, the employees in each floor are set to perform their chosen theme

during the Christmas party. Furthermore, they are required to design their respective floors according

to their designated motif. I think it is a brilliant idea not just because they would win certain prizes but

also it can build a bond among co-workers. It serves multiple purposes that both benefits the business

and employees.

I was lucky that I was able to witness how these practices were being applied by CMCI because

through this, I learned that there can be a chance that you will be part of an entity that does things in

contrast to what you believe in. It is a matter on how you respond to this and only you, can dictate.
