In the present work an alternativemethod to transform retained austenite s studied in a Fe-Ni-C alloy. The resultsare com-
pare with those obtained using conventional methods. A linear relationship is found between the arnount of martenste for-
med and the quenching temperature. The change of electrical resistance vs. time was measured, observing that as the amount
of martensite increases, the initial change of resistance increases up to a maximum at approxrnately 80% of martensite.
During the cclc heat treatments the transformaton ocurred only in the intervalliquid nitrogen- solid CO2 The y ~ a' trans-
formation is accelerated by cclyc heat treatment. This indicates that during the time the material is at the higher temperature
of the cicle, there is so me atomic mobility, unpinning they - a nterfases, thus aeeelerating the reaction. The ciclyc heat treat-
ment produced. A greater amount of martensite than the sub-cero treatment.
