The Renewable Energy Act of 2008 or R.A. 9513, signed into law on December 16, 2008, affirms the
governments commitment to accelerate the exploration and development of renewable energy (RE)
resources. It also mandates the development of a strategic program to increase its usage.

The NREP seeks to increase the RE-based capacity
of the country to an estimated
15,304 MW
by the year 2030, almost triple its 2010 level.
