3.- Create Body Lines Plan

(module Formas)

Use icon in AutoCADs Tool Bar to start working with

Formas.

Module Formas provides the specific tools to work with hull

lines.

The goal is to draw the Body Lines plan, fair it and create the 3D models ARQN uses in its calculations.

To draw body lines plan ARQN offers 3 posibilities :

1. use particular modulus in FORMAS to define each one of the sections of the hull
2. create a table of offsets in an Excel worksheet, from where Formas will read the data.
3. draw a traditional 2D body lines plan in AutoCAD.

3.1.-Define individual hull sections :

We will use header menus

Each one of menus gives us

access to specific module for
giving data (point coordinates)
of each section on the hull.

Each of these modules

operates exclusively with its
specific lines :

- Long. Prof.
- Tangentials
- Trans. Sections

Only Body Plan module deals

with all types of sections.

Later well discuss this option more in depth.

NOTE :

When loading Body Plan module, the application will report that did not find some files.
Do not worry, click "Ignore" and continue

3.2.- Use a table of offsets in Excel

Before starting this exercise :

In the directory where ARQN was installed,

sub folder Tutorial

TAN S.L.\ ARQ 2014\ Tutorial

youll find the file "Cartilla.xls".

Copy it to directory :

C: \ ARQN Projects \ Project 124 \ formas

Now :

Use the header menu "Body Plan" (seepicture in previous page) to access this module.

In the new window that opens, use the header menu Working with Excel

e.mail : 657677483@orange.es
This opens a new window where you can :

Read data from Excel and Draw Body Lines

The button opens the table of offsets of the boat, if this has been previously
created.

Now click on . ----- > Ships Table of Offsets appears

You can get the typical 2D body lines drawing or a 3D wireframe.

In both cases the user will improve the model created with this command as much as desired.

Typically working with the 2D model to create the final shapes, and from them , create the necessary
3D models for naval architecture calculations.

Later we will see examples of how to work with the module Plano Formas to better complete the
forms and smooth lines for the final design.

selected the type of curve)

Create a New Table of Offsets

Quit ARQN and Formas.

In the folder :

TAN S.L.\ ARQ 2014\ Tutorial

Youll find a file named :

Plano de Formas.dwg.

Copy it, without changing its name, in the folder C:\ARQN Projects\Project 124\formas.

Go directly to Plano de Formas module, clicking on the button in

AutoCADs Toolbar.

The same window chapter 3.2 opens and in it, click the menu
Working with Excel.

We have two possibilities:

1. Enter the coordinates of the points of the various curves in the Excel table, then applying the
draw.

2. Obtain the coordinates of points from an existing lines plan, CREATED WITH MODULE "Plano
de Formas" of ARQN

TAN s.l. 11
e.mail : 657677483@orange.es
1.- Enter the coordinates of the points of the various curves

The table of offsets must be created by cutting the frames and the longitudinal profile with as many
water lines as you want to use.

In the central tablel, the window should indicate the various intervals and the spacing between them.

What you see in the figure means that it will create the following water lines:

Between 0 and 200 mm from the base line, every 50 mm

Between 200 and 1200 mm, every 100 mm
Between 1200 and 2600, separated 200 mm
And a last water line at 2600 mm from base line

Dont forget to save data in this table

In this case, the application, by default, will create a table with 15 frames : 11 evenly spaced Lbp/10
distance plus two intermediate frames in each of the forward and aft ends. There, by hand, introduce
the coordinates of the points.

The final file must be saved in the project directory, in the subfolder "forms".
TAN s.l. 12
e.mail : 657677483@orange.es
2.- Obtain the coordinates of points from an existing body lines plan.

We should have on AutoCADs screen the Plano de Formas.dwg whose table of offsets we want to
get.

This time we must also indicate the water lines necessary but, unlike explained in 1, the application will
find out how many frames are in the plane and will prepare the Excel table accordingly.

To allow the application to do all that is necessary the Plano de Formas have been created with the
Forms module. Thus each line have been assigned a code to distinguish them from the others and
module "Formas" clearly knows how to treat each.

PROCEDURE:

1. Open in AutoCAD the file Plano de

Formas.dwg
2. Indicate water lines you need

3. Click button
4. Click button

5. Wait patiently until the Excel data table is

3.3.- Draw a traditional 2D body lines plan in AutoCAD

The last option is to hand draw in AutoCAD, traditional 2D shapes drawing.

But for this we have a wide range of support, which make the job much simpler and more flexible

However, you must follow two important rules:

1. Draw shapes in the coordinate system required by ARQN

2. Give each curve codes that allow ARQN recognize and give the treatment required by each
one.

3.3.1.- The Coordinates System

Fig. 1 - When drawing the Body Lines plan

That is, when drawing th lines plan, we place the frames and the other curves as shown in Fig.

Instead, ARQN places the 3D models with baseline as X axis but the origin located in the Ap.

TAN s.l. 15

3.3.2.- Give Codes to curves

For this exercise we will define a new project called "Tug", of the following main particulars:

Total Length : 36,9 m

Length between perpendiculars : 32,5 m
Water line Length : 35,67 m
Max.Moulded Breadth : 9,5 m
Height to deck at ships side : 5,2 m

These are the lines you are going to work with :

For Forms, at this time, these lines do not make sense. We must tell the application what each line and
any more information that identifies or position in the hull. So we must indicate:

frames: their distances from aft peprpendicular .

longitudinal profile: the case of the bow or stern.
deck lines: if an elevation or if they are traces in the transversal plane.

At the stern, about 590 mm from center line,

is a place that seems very irregular.

To better determine the significance of this

irregularity, we will request a drawing of a
longitudinal section at 550 mm center line.

The longitudinal sections can be obtained by

program prompts you to choose the lines you
want to use

Click
