SOLTA BEAGA ON TOUR!

On Friday the 26th of
May, we excitedly boarded
the bus, strapped our-
selves in and sang our way
to Leahy's Open Farm. It
was a beautiful sunny day -
one of the nicest we've
had so far this year! We
started off with a tour of
the old farm village where
we visited the old cottage
and schoolhouse. After
that we discovered the
cranng and had great fun
running around inside. We
fed some hungry goats and
hens before curling up in
the nest swing for a well-
deserved rest. After that
it was on to the climbing
frame where some of us
needed rescuing. We met
Humphrey the camel on
our travels too. The barrel
train was one of the high-
lights of our visit, Luke,
Mabh and Dion loved it so and so, as a special treat,
much that they went back
for a second spin. There
are lots of slides at
Leahy's but the big drop
slide was our favourite!

feeding the animals in the
barn too. Everyone had a
turn at driving the old fire
engine and pumping water

very, very warm after our
busy morning on the farm

the farm - chocolate was
the most popular flavour
and it was delicious. We
had a fantastic time on our

Dear Parents\Guardians and Pupils,
I want to take this opportunity to wish
you all a safe and a happy summer break!
Hard to believe that the school year is
almost over as we count down the days
and get ready to sign off on the end of
year report cards! School tours have
already started and the Cork City Sports
were held last Thursday the 1st of June
in the CIT grounds. It was a miserable
day, weather wise! Many thanks to the
boys and girls who represented us and to
the teachers who trained them and
minded them on the day. The boys were
not successful in terms of finishes but
the girls were successful with a third in
the sprints and success at the Under 11
and Over 11 relays. Our teams in the
camige, hurling and football competi-
tions competed very well and were excel-
lent ambassadors for our school. We also
were very proud that two pupils were
chosen to represent Cork in Hurling and
Football. Well done to Kate McCarthy
and to Erin Joyce. It was a great honour
for the school!
A big shout out to all the classes that
shared assembly time each month this
year. It is a great experience for the
pupils and is always nice when we can
celebrate the achievements of other
pupils and the good work that is going on
in our school.
We want to congratulate Ms. Patricia
Shelley and Ms. Susan Hurney who are
going out on Maternity Leave. We wish
them a happy and a safe Maternity
Leave. We will also be saying goodbye to
two teachers who were job sharing with
PARENTS ASSOCIATION NEWS
The Parents Association have been very
busy for the last few months of 2017.
One of our main fundraising events during
the year is our annual flag day which was
held over the Easter bank holiday week-
end 14th & 15th April at SuperValu and
Tesco. This year we arranged a bag pack
which is a change from our usual event on
the May bank holiday weekend. A total of
2,515.51 was raised for our school which
was an increase of 991.68 on our 2016
Flag Day. We would like to thank all the

us for this school year. A big thank you
to Ms. Sheila ONeill who was job sharing
with Ms. Kate Hickey in Senior Infants
and will be returning to her home school
at the end of the school year and to Ms.
Muireann Cunningham who is also return-
ing to her home school. It has been a
great experience for all of the school
community.
Next year Ms. Eileen McCarthy will be
job sharing with Ms. Mire Hickey. Ms.
Kate Hickey will be job sharing with Ms.
Deirdre OConnor and Ms. Niamh Butler
will be job sharing with Ms. Annette
Hegarty.
Congratulations to Mr. Keith McCarthy
on completing his Diploma and many
thanks to Ms. Mary Conway for her help
and mentoring during Mr. McCarthys
probation.
On a sad note we are going to miss Ms.
Conway as she moves to Kerry at the end
of this school year. Ms. Conway has made
a huge contribution to Bunscoil Mhuire
and has been a very prominent member
of the teaching staff for nearly nine
years now. We wish her all the best as
she moves and we thank her for all she
has done here for the school and the
pupils in her care. Go n-ir go geal leat!
Ms. Conway spent many years teaching
the senior classes and we acknowledge
and thank the other Sixth class teachers
Ms. Treasa Edmonds and Ms. Hurney for
the work that went into preparing the
pupils for their Confirmation. Also a
thank you to Ms. Joan Coyne and Ms.
Deirdre Nagle for the First Holy Com-
munion that took place on the 20th of
parents who gave some time and helped
make this such a successful event. We
also arranged the refreshments after the
~First Holy Communion mass on the 20th
May and will be involved in the refresh-
ments for the graduation which is taking
place on the 21st June. We also arranged
refreshments for the Dress for Less
incentive and arranged the Pay by Weight
collections company for the leftover
dresses. Dont forget our uniform collec-
tion which takes place on Thurs 22nd/Fri
May last.
Again there were a lot of other teachers
and SNAs involved and I would like to
take this opportunity to thank all mem-
bers of staff here at Bunscoil Mhuire
for their hard work and dedication to
duty for this school year. Thanks also to
all the pupils who have been so good and
a pleasure to teach and to our school
choir who have been in attendance at so
many events both inside and outside of
the school. Maith sibh ar fad.
The boys and girls are now enjoying using
the new iPads throughout the school. We
received delivery of the second trolley
with 32 iPads recently. That means that
two floors can now be easily covered and
timetabling of computer time has been
made a lot easier. Many thanks for your
continued support and to the Parents
Association. Their fundraising has made
quite a significant difference to the
facilities we can offer your children. A
big thank you to all of the members of
the Parents Association and to the mem-
bers of the Board of Management who
work so hard for our school.
The Graduation Mass will take place on
Wednesday 21st at 7.30p.m. It will be an
emotional evening but also a celebration
of many years of happiness here at Bun-
scoil Mhuire.

I designed a way for Mr.
White to put students names
in random order on a digital
list. We can use it for things
like picking out where every-
one gets to sit in class. I made
it on Scratch which I found
out about at Techkidz Sum-
mer Camp last year. At the
moment Scratch is only on
computers. I had to share the
computer with my sister so I
could only work on it every
second day. People can see the
project on the Scratch web-

Everybody has a great time.
First we made our own fairy
doors. They all turned out
great. Tom and Tim cut them
out from a piece of wood. We

 FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
We made our First Holy Communion on the
20th of May. We received our Holy Com-
munion in the Holy Family church. Fr. Win-
kle, Canon Herlihy and Canon Brown were
there. My party was so fun. My dress was
beautiful and my tiara was so pretty. My
ring was pretty. My shoes were pretty. At
the church the choir sang. It was a great
day for all of us. At the church my job
was taking up art. There were other jobs
like, candles, singing, fruit, flowers, gos-
pel and wine. It was a great day. In the
morning I had mixed feelings but the day
was brilliant.

the first time. I went to my aunts house

we have learned about anti-
racist bullying. While we were
learning we decided to make a

We were working on the video
for three to four weeks so we
put a lot of effort into it. Mr.

We received it on the 20th of My 2017. I
was very excited. The priests were Fr.
Winkle, Canon Herlihy and Canon Brown. I
brought up the wine to the altar. Every-
body was great at their jobs. Everybody
looked great! I was nervous at the start
but then I was alright. Then we got the
group photo. Then I got a photo with
Alex. Then I took photos with my family
and then we had a party. It was a great
day!

finished we went up home to eat some
breakfast. Then I went upstairs to put on
my jewellery and shoes and socks. When
it was time to go I put my dress on and we
walked to the Holy Family Church. It was
only around the corner. We met everyone
at the church. Then we went into the
church and sat down. My job was to say
the Prayer of the Faithful. It was a lot of
fun. My friend and I got the same job so
I was so so so happy that we got the same

 REPTILES BY RUBY ROSE
On the 16th of May Jenna from
the Reptile Rooms came to
Fifth Class to Miss Shellys and
Ms. Hegartys. She was kind
enough to bring some reptiles.
There were Bearded Dragons, a
tortoise, a Boa (snake). A King
Snake and a Veiled Chameleon.
I helped out by showing every-
one the reptiles. When I was
showing the tortoise to every-
one it pooped on Tara!!! The

SWIMMING LESSONS BY AARON KIENGE

On Thursdays after lunch Third
Class get on the bus to bring us
to Aura swimming pool. When
we get there we must put our
swimming shorts/costumes on.
Then we go under the shower
before getting into the pool.
The swimming teacher shows us
the skills of swimming, like
floating on our backs and how
to breathe when swimming. You
must wear a swimming hat and
goggles. We have play time at
the end for five minutes, its
great fun. After swimming we
must shower again and get
dressed. Then we get back on
the bus to return to school. We
had six swimming lessons and on
the last day we got to go on the
big slide, which was my favour-
ite part of the lessons.

On June the 1st all the

 A TRIP TO THE COAST GUARD STATION
The students in our school
went to visit the Coast
Guard Station across the
road from the school. We
learned all about water
safety. It was for Water
Safety Week. It was from
the 19th to the 25th of June
however, we all know that we
need to think about water
safety every week! Some
people were put in stretch-
ers. They were showing us
what they do when there is
