ARCH 121 Summer 2017
1. INTRODUCTION
Our firm has been able to convince our joint venture partners that that the industrial lot owned by our
Client should be developed by building a light industrial building on the site. Your employer (Instructor)
has approved your selection of light-industrial use for the site. You will need to carefully study and
understand the functions and relationship of each space required for your development in order to
complete a functional, economical and sustainable design for the industrial building.
In order to prepare for the Design Phase of our Project, you will create a Bubble Diagram and a Program
Matrix. You will base those two documents on the generic program matrix provided on the last page,
enhanced with information you found while doing the research of various industrial buildings in
Assignment No. 1.
Steps:
1. Provide the type of Industrial use you propose for your site below and have your instructor
approve it.

Type of light industrial development proposed Instructors initials
Steps:
1. Prepare a design title block on ledger size paper (11x17).
2. Draw the program matrix perpendicular and diagonal grid for the number of spaces/rooms you
have (either one matrix per floor, or one combined).
3. Indicate each room and fill in the data for each column as shown in the example, but using YOUR
ideas and YOUR words.
4. Indicate the proposed adjacency of each space in the diagonal matrix using the Donut or Circle
AutoCAD commands.
5. Provide a title, date, course/section number and your name on each sheet.
6. Print the drawings using the appropriate LT scale and CTB file.
Students will work individually to complete the above requirements. Work shall be based on the
Space Requirements provided on the following pages and the conclusions of the research undertaken in
Assignment No. 1 including the functional, sustainable, and design requirements. AutoCAD and sketching
techniques will be used in the preparation of the drawings. Final presentation will be on a standard format
ledger printed page. Drawings are to be prepared using AutoCAD. If used, images must be described and
the source identified.
