Compare and Contrast

Standards:

CCSS ELA:

Procedures

1. The class and I will discuss todays main learning target. I can identify the characters, themes,
settings and plots of a story and I can compare and contrast characters, themes, settings and
plots of stories.

2. After reviewing the anchor charts and vocabulary for the lesson. Students will be put in groups
of three. They will each get a tablet and told to go to the Wiki Page.

3. The students will be given the link to a google doc. They will open the one for their group.
(Group 1-7)

4. The students and I will watch The Three Little Pigs on the smart board. We will stop the video
as we come across new characters, settings, and fill out plot and theme. I will model stopping
and filling out the section.

WE DO: Watch The True Story of the Three Little Pigs

5. The students will watch The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. We will stop every once in a
while to allow partners to fill out the characters, plot, theme and setting.

6. We will discuss answers after the video and adjust google documents with corrections or new
information.

7. We will then go to the Compare and Contrast section of the Google Doc. We will fill in one
sentence in each section of how both stories are the same and different.

8. Students will fill in three more sentences for each, creating four sentences for each section.

9. Students will go to kahoot.com and complete a quiz based on todays lesson.

10. Students will also answer the discussion questions on the Exit Slip page. Today's Take
Aways: What did you learn today? What did you like about today's lesson What did you not like
about today's lesson?

How students will be assessed: I will assess the students using the Google Docs from each
group. I will see who is participating and finding information and attempting to answer the
questions and see who is answering them correctly. I will see if they are understanding the
concepts and if they are able to compare and contrast both stories based on characters, setting,
plot and theme.

Accommodations and modifications for students: I will accommodate my low readers, ECE
and ESL students by allowing them to verbally speak and their partners can type what they are
saying. ESL students can use google translate if needed.
