anne j. cruz is a scholar of early modern Spanish literature
and culture. She received her AB, MA, and PhD from Stanford
University and has taught at the University of California, Irvine;
the University of Illinois, Chicago; and the University of Miami.
A corresponding member of Spains Royal Academy of History,
she has published recently on Habsburg royal women and the im-
pact of gender on transnational theater.
