Guidelines for Practicing Optometrist

The Professional Regulation Commission
pursuant to Resolution 2013-774, the
Revised Guidelines on Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) Program
for All Licensed and Registered
Professional , has mandated the Board of
Optometry to develop a CPD program
template to carry out the following
objectives, to wit:
OBJECTIVES
SECTION 3. OBJECTIVES. The overarching goals of
the CPD shall be the promotion of the general
welfare and interest of the public in the course of
delivering professional services. Towards the end,
CPD programs shall strive to:
Continuously improve the quality of the countrys
reservoir of registered professionals by updating
them on the latest scientific/technological/ethical
and other applicable trends in the local and global
practice of the professions;
OBJECTIVES
Provide support to lifelong learning in the
enhancement of competencies of Filipino
professionals towards delivery of quality and
ethical services both locally and globally; and
Deliver quality continuing professional
development (CPD) activities aligned with the
Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF) for
national relevance and global comparability
and competitiveness.

Optometry Council of Deans Philippines or

CPD PROVIDERS
The CPD Provider A natural or juridical person that
conducts CPD programs accredited by the CPD Council
to conduct CPD programs. The organization should
submit the following requirements:
Registration at the Securities and Exchange
Commission
Compliance with LGU, BIR, SSS, Philhealth and other
government requirements
Submission of a 3 Year CPD program with list of
resource speakers
Submission of proposed certification program if
conferring additional titles for the completion of
specialty courses
CPD PROVIDERS

effectively implement the CPD Prgram for Optometrists
came up with the following action plans:
CPD Forum with Optometry organizations, Colleges of
Optometry, and other related Optometry and Optics
Institute or College , to encourage them to apply for
accreditation as CPD Providers
Training facilities and affiliate centers ocular visitation for
compliance to minimum instruments requirements
Standard Optometry and Optics modules for CPD
Providers
Standard CPD credit units based on the number of training
hours on the specific topic of the module completed
Training of Trainers conducted by the CPD Optometry
Council
Consultative Conference with Optometry

Recognition Arrangement
RECOGNISING the objectives of the ASEAN Framework
Agreement on Services (AFAS), which are to enhance
cooperation in services amongst ASEAN Member States
in order to improve the efficiency and competitiveness,
diversity, production capacity, and supply and
distribution of services of their services suppliers within
and outside ASEAN; to eliminate substantially
restrictions to trade in services amongst ASEAN Member
States; and to liberalise trade in services by expanding
the depth and scope of liberalisation beyond those
undertaken by ASEAN Member States under the General
Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) with the aim to
realising a free trade area in services;

education or experience obtained,
requirements met, and license or
certification granted in other ASEAN
Member States, for the purpose of licensing
or certification of service suppliers;
