CITY OF SAN JOSE DEL MONTE Dexter Carlos Sr., a security guard, arrived home on
Tuesday morning at North Ridge Royal Subdivision here from the night shift in a bank in Makati
City but was greeted with silence.

Carlos was calling out to family members to open their gate when he arrived in their house in
Barangay Sto. Cristo at 8:45 a.m. No one answered.

After waiting for an hour and growing impatient, Carlos climbed the gate, peeped through a
window, and was stunned when he saw his mother-in-law, Aurora, 58, lying on the floor without
her lower garments.

He called the police, and proceeded to the back door where he found his wife, Estrella, lying naked
on the floor with several stab wounds.

He also found his three children 1-year-old Dexter Jr., Ella, 7, and Donny, 11 locked inside a
room, dead from stab wounds.

Supt. Fitz Macariola, city police chief, said Carlos told the police that he last saw his family alive
at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Aurora was visiting from Davao City, Macariola said.

The polices Scene of the Crime Operation here said the victims bore knife wounds, but forensic
investigators had yet to recover the murder weapons.

Investigators said the family could have been attacked and killed between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

Macariola said investigators started interviewing neighbors, particularly those who visited the
family members before their bodies were found.

The house stands in front of a staging area for tricycles, indicating that someone may have
witnessed the killer or killers.

Estrella, police said, engaged in a small business by selling water from a faucet outside their house.
Investigators would want to know who frequented the area.
Another fatal case of child abuse shocks
Davao City

Davao City This city is in shock, as yet another child died in the hands of persons who should
be taking care of them.

Two-year old John Earl died Sunday after he was reportedly put into a sack and beaten up by his
own guardians Sarah Jane and Ronilo Alcain at their residence in Barangay Calinan here.

The brutal fate that John Earl met in the hands of the couple with whom he was entrusted by his
mother, an overseas worker in Bahrain, enraged City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte who told reporters
yesterday that she would ensure swift justice for John Early and has already assigned a special
prosecutor to handle the case.

Sarah Jane is reportedly a cousin of John Earls mother.

Duterte has also instructed the Davao City Police Office to fast-track the autopsy of the child.
Burial expenses will be shouldered by the City Social Services and Development Office.

Initial investigation showed that the Alcains beat up John Earl with a belt after the toddler wet
himself.

But neighbors said they saw the Alcains put John Earl in a sack before they beat him up.

They only sensed that something went wrong at around 11 p.m., and it was only then that they
brought John Earl to the hospital where the boy was declared dead on-arrival.

Meanwhile, Duterte appealed to the public to make use of the Kean Gabriel child abuse hotline,
which investigates anonymous calls about child abuse. The hotline number is 09088184444.

Duterte said that the childs name and location would be all that the government would need to
investigate reported cases to guarantee the safety of those who would report such incidents.

So far, one child has been rescued because of the hotline number.

Kean Gabriel is the name of another four-year-old, who died in the hands of an abusive father in
Barangay Matina Pangi.

The boy was put inside a sack, and was placed on top of a cabinet. But the boy, while still inside
the sack, fell from the cabinet and died later.
