I. TOPIC: Inspection Practices


II. Goal/Scope
A. All Apprentice firefighters will complete this assignment as a
requirement for their apprenticeship.
B. Upon completion, the apprentice firefighter will have a broader
knowledge and comprehensive approach to Fire Inspections that
will be more extensive than at the company level.
III. Learning Objectives
A. Apprentice firefighter will identify and describe methods
approaching a more complex inspection.
B. The apprentice will accompany a fire inspector on a building
inspection of a more complex nature.
1. The building will be picked out by the inspector for your
territory.
2. The building will be from your assigned territory.
3. Apprentice will use violations from complex inspection and
utilize them for their outline and presentation.
C. Apprentice firefighter will report and elaborate on fire inspections
with five different violations.
1. Use five (5) inspections:
a) At least two of five will be from Complex Inspections.
b) Three (3) others can be from assigned company
inspections.
2. Each example must be different.
3. Apprentice will write about the five examples and cover:
a) What is the violation?
b) The correction needed?
c) Explain, if uncorrected, how it is a detriment to life
safety and fire operations.
IV. Assignment Expectations: Outline and Drill Implementation
A. Outline will identify and describe inspection practices in the Fire
Service and MFD.
1. Will be used for drill presentation.
2. Include your five examples in the outline.
3. Outline will be pre-approved by Training and assigned officer
before drill presentation.
B. Drill will demonstrate will how each violation, if uncorrected, could
affect fire fighting practices.
V. Noted Completion
A. Completion will be acknowledged when:
1. Outline for drill is OKd by assigned Lieutenant and
Training Captain.
2. Hard copy outline, inspection examples, and report are
handed in via inter d.
3. Assigned Lieutenant sends e-mail to acknowledge drill
presentation and completion.
