The software model was developed using Fortran
language under the PSCAD environment. Its very uer-

deseibes the Features afte inverse time vercirent ey
with ANSI device mamber SI. The relxy model
provides IEC and TEFE sundard ime-curent curves, and
‘offers options for tbe modeling of ype CO, IAC, MCGG,
‘SEL and BE relays. 1t canbe configured to represent the
shove relays, and the disk motion snd the outpat of the
relay can bo monitored and observed. The effect ofthe
‘reat onthe dis is modeled wing an integrator, referred
to as the relay inteaa ategrator, which sar integration
‘when the current flowing nto the relay exceeds te pickup
value, sod continues antl it rachet an integer I and
‘outputs trip signal. The vale I indicates the disk has
teaveled to its fll postion. The relay internal integrator
stars another round of integration when the inp current
drops below its dropout value indicating the disk is
‘eaveling fom is full postion towards its “atest”
position. The integration cootinues until it reachos 0
‘nicating the dis is at terest position. An interface is
ko provided to elite te modsliag of custom
Gesigned time-cureat curves. The tntrfice shown #2
Fig takes the A, B, Kp gt constants fora custom
esigned curve, aod models the effect ofthe input current
fon the relay, where the output of the relay can be
observed, andthe time required to tip and reset can also
‘bemonitored.
4, EVALUATION
The software model developed based on equations (9)
‘was tested using the eteuitstoum in Fig 5. The PSCAD
“‘oulirun” component produces the input current 10 the
relay tytwo sequeatial butpus I and 12. Outpa 1 serves
15 the operating urea, which varies from 1.5A to 20.08,
Staring fom 1.SA forthe fist rum with an jocremental
‘ep of OA for the next run, Output 12 is the reseiting
‘Curent, Which varies fom 095A to OA widh a sep of
0.1. The operating or resetting curents via a Two-Input-
Selector to the relay serve as tho input current to the relay.
‘The ‘TwovlaputSelector uses the relay ouput as ie
‘control and selects the operating caren I when the relay
‘utputs zero. It switcher tothe resting cureat 2 afer
‘the relay bas tripped. Tho Soe required wo tp (Tw) it
obtained using a atgrator, which stars time intogration
‘when the iapit currents switched to he operating current
and ceases when the relay trips. This tip signal also
triggers the Tox integrator, which integrates the time
quired to reset the relay and ceases when the output of
the relay internal integrator (I10P) is below a preset
value of LOBOT2, ie. tbe disk retums to is ateest
position. At each ru, the PSCAD alifun records Tey
{8nd Trad stores them in an output file for ploting
-40-Fig. 5 The Test Circuit,
‘The timecurent curves used by relays are always
provided by maoufictures. Te validation ofthe software
‘del requiced that we test the relay and record the time
required to tip and reset fo plot a time-curent curve and
‘compare it with the one provided by the manufacture.
To produce the CO-7 cure family, the relay model was
configured to a CO-7 type relay with «pickup value of
LOA. The relay is set wo test with o reset time required.
This is selected because the test for this Tunis only
concerned withthe operating characteristic, The relay was
first set wo the Now/2. time dial and starts wit an
‘perting cuneat of 15A, with an increment sep of
‘IIA to produce a sequential operating cureat forthe next
run. The tie required to prodace a tip sigpal is recorded
at each run, The above process was repeated in onder 10
biain the No.I-11 time curt curves. ‘The ouput files
fre converied to Matis files and are seed by a Matlab
program for ploting on the loglog coordinate as
‘usraed in Fig.

‘The rely model was also applied forthe protection of.
a distribution feeder on «network, where the fut tothe
relay is tho curent magnitide ftom the istument CT.
The relay operates a expected under all types of faults at
