A Daughters Repentance

Seetings: At the province of Samar

Characters:

Celia a very loving mother to her child

Xena daughter of Celia who treated her as an embarrassment

Plot:

In a little house at the province of Samar, there lived a woman named Celia. She

was an industrious lady, a kind hearted person, and a very loving mother to her only

child, Xena. She and her daughter used to have a wealthy life 10 years ago, the time

before an accident changed their whole life. She had lost her husband because of that

accident leaving the two of them with nothing. After the death of Xenas father, Celia

has no one to depend on. She had no choice but to support the family on her own. She

applied for many jobs but no one has to accept her because of the big scar on the face.

She had nothing to do but grab any possible alternative just to earn money. She often

do some laundry from their neighbor and even fetch some water for other people just to

make a peso.
 But, Xena is a 13 year old now. Shes moving into a new school to continue in

high school. And turning high school means additional expenses for a parent like Celia.

She knew that doing laundry and fetching water for other people is not enough to

support Xenas studies. One day, Celia came into a decision of finding a new job, and

fortunately, the school where Xena enters accepted her as a janitress in the morning

and a canteens dishwasher at night. She was very glad for having a job, especially

because she was going into Xenas school. She felt very happy because she can now

watch for her daughter every day. But her happiness is opposite on what Xena feels.

Xena treats her mother as an embarrassment because of its ugly scarred face.

She really hates her. It is because theres this time when her mother approaches her in

front of her classmates, all of them laughed at her. She really felt embarrassed on that

day. And then the next day, one of her classmates said, Yuck! Your mothers very ugly.

She looks like a monster. On that very moment, she wanted to bury herself because of

too much embarrassment. She ran out of the room and confronted her mother and said,

If youre only going to make me a laughing stock, why dont you just die? Her mom

didnt respond and Xena didnt even stop to think for a second about what she had said.

She was full of anger. She never really thought what her mother would feel. I wanted to

go away and have nothing to do with you, Xena said furiously.

And from that confrontation, Xena studied really hard and got a chance to study

abroad. Then many years later, Xena came back and got married. She had two kids,

bought a house of her own, and lived a wealthy life without hearing anything about her

mother. Then one day, Celia came to visit Xena. When Celia stood by the door, Xenas

kids got scared. How dare you come to my house and scare my children! GET OUT OF
HERE NOW!!!, Xena screamed after seeing her mother unexpectedly. And to this,

Celia quietly answered, Oh, Im so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address. And

she quietly left the house.

One day, Xena had a heart attack. It was fatal. Shes almost on her near death.

She was brought into hospital and a bad news breaks out. Miss Xena, Im so sorry to

say this but you have a weak heart. You need to undergo a transplant within a week or

else, youll die, the doctor said. Xena was very shocked and had nothing to do but to

cry. Luckily the next day, the doctor went back to Xena to deliver the good news.

Congratulations, Miss Xena! Youve got a heart donor, said the doctor. Few days have

passed, Xena got a successful operation. She went home with her husband with a new,

healthy heart.

One night, in her bedroom, Xena got into curiosity. HmmI lay in the hospital

for a month and that woman never visited me, she said. So the next day, she went to

their old house just out of curiosity. She found out that her mother died a month ago.

She didnt shed a tear. Then a neighbor handed her a letter that Celia, her mother,

wanted to gave to her. She read the letter:

My Dearest Daughter, Xena,

I always think about you my child. Im sorry that I once came to your house

unexpectedly and scare your children.

Xena, Im sorry for being a constant embarrassment to you when youre growing up.

You see, when you were very young, our house got burned, and you were stuck in the

room. Youre crying very hard that night, so I hurriedly went back to save you. I felt joy
when I finally got you in my arms safely; but unfortunately, a burning wood fell and I

covered you with my own body causing me to burn myself.

I didnt tell this story to you when youre growing up because it might traumatize you.

But you know, I never regretted that I did that for you because youre my daughter.

Thats why even if you treated my scarred face as an embarrassment, I still dont care

about it because for me, the story behind that scar was the greatest thing Ive done for

you.

Oh! By the way, dont worry about your heart because tomorrow, Im going to donate

mine. I know that youll be happy to hear it. I just hope that youll live a happy life with

your family even if Im gone. Just always smile Xena. I love you very much.

Your Loving Mother

After reading that letter, Xena burst into tears. She never thought that the scar on her

mothers face was all because of her. She cried aloud and said, Mother, Im so sorry for

treating you as an embarrassment. Im so sorry for everything. Im very sorry She

repeatedly exclaimed the words Im Sorry but its useless now because her mother

cannot hear those words anymore.
