An initiative of the students of the Department

of Agricultural and Food Engineering, Indian
Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, PRAKRITI,
2010 aims at bringing in a new outlook
towards agricultural and food sector. It
stresses on promoting awareness and
encouraging venture into this field keeping in
view its substantial importance in the Indian
Economy, and creating a platform for all
engineers and institutions to exchange their
knowledge, views and ideas.

In this era of globalization and cut-throat
competition, the focus has shifted from price
to innovations. Today, innovative
technologies, products and services rule the
industry. Globalization has caused major
brands from all over the world to come and
compete with their Indian counterparts. The
responsibility of this competition lies with the
modern generation which primarily comprises
of the students of today. But are these
students being prepared for the tough
challenge that they have to face?
Prakriti 2010 aims to identify the areas of
opportunities and provide a platform where
the academia, students and industry come
together to take the first step to exploit these
opportunities.
EVENTS TO BE HELD
Industry Oriented Events
Symposium
Each Industry, be it food, agriculture, farm
machinery or irrigation, has its own unique
requirements as far as Human Resource is
concerned. The skill set that the students
need to be equipped with before entering in
the professional world has undergone a
tremendous change in the past few years. This
event is a panel discussion on "Present
challenges and future needs in Industries and
their expectation from educational institutes".
This event would also accompany an
exhibition of various technologies developed
by Department of Agricultural and Food
Engineering, IIT Kharagpur as well as from
other academic institutions.

Objectives:
1. The students and the academia get to
know about the more about the
needs and trends in the industry.
2. The technology exhibition will act as
platform for the academia to
showcase their technologies and the
industry to have an idea about the
research in various academic
institutions.
3. We aim to promote the research
collaboration between Industry and
academia.
Agribusiness Workshop
A lot of students by the end of their studies
aspire to become successful entrepreneurs.
The event focuses on building a platform
where these budding entrepreneurs are able
to interact with some of the successful
entrepreneurs, government officials and
professionals from industries and academia.
to get a better idea of the challenges that they
are going to face and know about the various
schemes provided by the government to
support such start-ups.
Major focus areas:
1. Managing a Start-Up and managing its
growth.
2. Government initiatives to promote
start-ups in Agri-Business.
3. Interaction with the entrepreneurs to
understand the challenges and
opportunities in the field.
4. Financing opportunities.
 Student Oriented Events
Career Counselling
This workshop aims to help the young
students in carefully analyzing where they see
themselves today and after some years in the
near future. In addition to the guidance from
a leading psychologist & career counsellor,
and the experience of the people in the
industry is would help them to synergize their
interests with their career goals and choose
the right career path for them.
Tech-villa
The series of three workshops is aimed to give
the students an exposure of the future face of
the industries related to Food, Farm
Machinery and Irrigation sectors.
Competitions
Manthan
The Case Study Competition requires the
students to analyze the problem statement
and come out with an innovative solution.
Bill Boards
The students would be required to design an
ad-campaign according to a given problem
statement.
Quizella
Competing with the best minds in India in the
field of Agricultural and Food Engineering to
test the excellence of the students against

others to find out where they stand is the
theme of this quiz.
Treasure Hunt
It is one of the most innovative competitions
providing perfect platform for the participants
to put on their thinking caps and unravel a
journey filled with fun and adventure. The
participants will be expected to find hidden
articles in different locations using a series of
clues. A map of the entire department will aid
them to locate these places.
